With a regular season record of 11-4, Night_Owl's "Won't You Be My Naybors" defeated "Stroud Proud" (12-3) for the championship.

As promised, I donated $100 to MetaFilter in honor of Night_Owl's victory (receipts upon request), and offer this post as proof of her cunning and skill. She may brag on all of us who participated, and, frankly, all of you who didn't participate, whom she clearly also beat.

This week on Slate's Hang Up and Listen podcast, hosts Josh Levin and Mike Pesca debate what is and isn't a sport.
Pesca: If you wanted to have a thumb-wrestling league, and you wanted to have real criteria, and you wanted to rank people on the internet, then it could be a sport tomorrow.
Levin (laughing): Anything that you rank people on the internet is a sport.
Pesca: Metafilter is a sport.

I know I'll probably get a lot of shit for this, like I do for every MeTa thread I post, but can we please please please put a moratorium on the phrase "X wins the thread" and all variants thereof?

Okay now please commence with snark and then others can quote that snark and say "[snarker] wins the thread" hooray!
