Is there an acceptable time lag for double posts? September 8, 2005 4:33 AM   Subscribe

So is there any kind of time factor dispensation for double posts?
I was emailed a link today that made me piss myself laughing, which I really feel the need for these days. I came here to post it but found it was already on the front page four years ago.

I don't know if this helps...

I hearby decree that 4 years is the official repost limit. Please, post away, CL.

I think you should post it. I also think you should change your pants. *holds nose*

I think mathowie said at one point that if it has been over a year and/or has significant amounts of changed material then it is okay for a repost. 4 years is definitely repostable.

Okay then.

Yeah, four years seems fine.

It made me smile, not just for remembering the songs, but also because it brought back memories of how different MetaFilter used to be pre-September 2001.

For future reference, I'm a big fan of placing the links to the previous post in the first comment. It tends to cut down on the smarty-pants remarks about double posts.

Well, there was only one so I figure I got off easy.
posted by CunningLinguist at 6:57 AM on September 8, 2005

Heh. As I remember it, mathowie made the special dispensation for years-old double posts immediately after being called out for a double himself.

Hmm. Running water, adequate electrical entry, cable modem, central heating and AC, yes this will do.

Good morning. Welcome to a bright new - well, slightly used - thread.

Wow. We're very close to 10228. Never underestimate the MeFite's impulse to complain.

My cat has clearly made herself comfortable here, though.

Me so hungry.

Ok guys, here's the plan: I'm going to go home and make some delicious rice & lentils. Then I'll go out, get some cash, buy some bread, and see if this halal butcher on El Camino stocks calf heart. Apparently they have goat!

*peek*

Good to see you're all keeping the fire lit back here for me. 24 days of strike and no end in sight. My City's starting to get gross with no garbage pickup, no parks maintenance, no street cleaning, no mosquito killing...
posted by raedyn at 4:04 PM on September 23, 2005

You mean your city isn't the place to go whether you are Muslim or not?
posted by If I Had An Anus at 5:37 PM on September 23, 2005

Muslim or not, I can't recommend it at the moment.
posted by raedyn at 6:47 PM on September 23, 2005

The halal butcher didn't have any heart.

I ate him anyway.

raedyn: hang in there. it must be tough now, and winter is coming. good luck

HALAL BUTCHER TASTING NOTES: Hints of old rags mingled with wet newspaper and fresh grass clippings. High solder notes, turning to raspberry/boudin noir puree on finish, which is long. Nose: teak, soccer hooligan pubic musk, vanilla.

Goodness.

I do believe that that clinches wfrgms Typo o' the Week award.

I'll vote for it. It surpasses "These people - despite their planning are all heading down a dead in road."

Is that too harsh? Maybe English is not his first language.

Let's all be quiet. The thread gramschmidt linked to is 10228 - presumably the next stepping stone in our winding path.
Let's hope #1 doesn't close it.

User #16 jjg complained about "google-fu". After six years of MetaFilter, that is what got to him? sigh.
posted by Cranberry at 11:12 PM on September 24, 2005

Cranberry gets an honourable mention cookie for her "Fu is the first name of Manchu and should be capitalized. Showing proper respect for Fu Manchu will make every one happy for the first time in MetaFilter history." comment in that thread.

You get your choice:

Chocolate chip

Pecan

or
White chocolate macadamia nut

I dunno about you, but it make me hungry looking at them.

Sorry, Cran, it seems that some bunny has gotten into the cookie jar and eaten them all before you had the chance!

Bunny Cookie

posted by caddis at 6:04 PM on September 25, 2005

One minute to grab the cookies? Guess I was too slow. raedyn, you are welcome to stuff your pockets with cookies while you are picketing. When the strike is over, we will expect some seasonal snack as a replacement. I sincerely hope it is not Christmas cookies!
However, if the strike does last that long, maybe caddis would help with decorating.
Nice bunny, caddis. Should you give one to taz?
posted by Cranberry at 7:50 PM on September 25, 2005

taz gets a cookie.
so does Cranberry.

I am actually posting this >>from work< !! no more picketing. it's over (pending ratification by the union membership and then by city council). i got the news late last night. i'm relieved.br>
But 4 weeks worth of work is piled up on my desk, so I'm off now. tata!

How did the negotiations of the safe-for-work issue turn out? Did you win the right to view the penis costume or not?
posted by If I Had An Anus at 12:52 PM on September 26, 2005

Well I was able to view the penis costume, so I believe that my negotiators deserve a raise. Still not able to read the best way to dispose of a body AskMe thread, though. So not a huge raise.

We haven't heard officially what the deal is. We ratify it (or not) tonight. Then City Council has to endorse it (or not). We're not quite out of the woods yet. If the rumour mill is correct about what the offer is, then there's gonna be a lot of angry people because we walked a long time for next to nothing. But it's all rumours and innuendo so far, anyway.

Who knew I'd ever be happy to come to work? Heh. You learn new things every day.
