MeFi user opens movie theater September 21, 2005 12:37 PM Subscribe
Mazel Tov to bjork24 who opens up his new independent movie theater, The Moxie Cinema today.
Thanks to the help of other Mefites, I now have my own little cinema just a couple of blocks from my house.
Thanks, all!

Derek plans his trip to Springfield as soon as possible.
I used to work at an independent theater chain in San Jose and we got to see a lot of good films that might otherwise have not been shown in the area. Good luck and save a seat for me.

Congrats! If we're ever down in Springfield for some reason (we're in Columbia) I'll be sure to stop by and take in a show.

This post made no sense until I realized that sourwookie was a neighbor of bjork24.

This has got to be the first useful indie cinema webpage I've ever seen.
Awesome!

Ten popcorn seasonings? One of them had better be Old Bay (says the Baltimorean, who wishes his neighborhood had a cool, tiny movie theater like yours).

And no fair counting "salt" and "butter" as two of the ten toppings, either.

Holy crap, I just spent about 30 minutes going through every one of the photo galleries. The building rennovation was a ton of work, but you guys did it beautifully. I really hope you guys do well!

Amazing. I am jealous and in awe. It looks like a LOT of sweatequity and love went into that place. Congrats and good luck!

Hey cool, bjork24! Congratulations. My brother helped build and launch the Ragtag Cinema in Columbia, so I know it takes a lot of hard work...

Wow! I just found this blurb through my stats (I'm a stat whore, yes), while I'm waiting for the intermission of the 7:00 show. Thanks sourwookie for the props, and thanks to everyone else (both mefites and non) for all the kind words and future patronage!
I hope to see you all at the Moxie!

"Holy crap, I just spent about 30 minutes..."
Yeah, me too. I spent more than that reading blog entries and just admiring the web design and utility. And how bright and organized and dedicated bjork24 and his (wife?) really are. I was very impressed.
I also got sidetracked reading the Film-Tech complaints-about-customers thread, and then also, somehow, Kodak's Pytlak's Projection Pointers. (The last links to a specific article on cinemascope vs flat aperatures; that and the one on aspect ratios and masking, and on brightness are all good things for serious moviegoers to read.)
This took up much of yesterday afternoon for me.
Bjork24, best of luck. I'm so rooting for your success. BTW, you seem to be familiar with Austin's Alamo Drafthouse theaters--they've been very successful and probably a good place to look for ideas. Of course, things like this are very market-specific and there's hardly many places more desirable for a business like Alamo Drafthouse anywhere in the US. Still, though.
