New Orleans Meetup September 24, 2005 7:40 PM   Subscribe

So. New Orleans/gulf area evacuees, when are you going back? Want to have a meet-up?

I know everything is still up in the air, but people are beginning to talk about heading back into the city to recover what they can. Want to have a meet/clean-up? Use it as an excuse to get the last of your things out and say goodbye to the city if you plan on leaving. But if you're sticking it through, it would be a nice break from the bizarre isolation. And we could do something nice and cultural for the city. Yes, I know, my bleeding heart is showing.

Suggestions? Yes? No? Too early to think about it?

a big meetup in the winter would be a great idea--i'm betting a lot of us would love to come back down.

I'd love to get together. The question of when is completely up in the air, of course. Beyond being allowed back, there's the question of transportation. I probably won't be returning until a relative with a car decides to.

Let me use this forum to remind folks that we have some dough left in the MeFi hurricane fund. If there are members that could use a little help from the area, let me know. It's hard searching for folks in the database, so let us know if you're in need.

My girlfriend and I, and some other friends, were thinking of going relatively soon, but we may end up going over the holidays or sometime around Mardi Gras (we live in NY but most of her family is in New Orleans and the area). We'd love to meet up with some people if schedules happen to coincide.

Count me in. I could use a drink now just to get the smell of cleaning out my refrigerator amd freezer out of my nose. Ahh, a nice bloody mary should do the trick.

Actually, if non-locals are interested, why not maintain one of our finer traditions? Throw a big drunk party and invite everyone?

MetaCleanup 05. Or something.

MetaGras it is. We'll provide alcohol, beads, and a good time. My house may or may not have two sofas (and bed room for attractive and so inclined women). BYO logic, bottled water, and economy!

Seriously, I'm on my contacts. If there is a charity involved, I could probably get hotel bulk rates for the cause.
