Some pictures from the recent Seattle meetup which was inspired by an AskMe thread. Certain users couldn't make it but that didn't stop them from being there anyway.

Looks like it was good times Seattlites. I'm trying to not take the fork sign personally.

Holy unadjusted levels, batman!

I love the masks. Especially the anonymasks, those should be standard issue for any MeFi gathering.

More pictures will be posted after work hours today.

OK, I'm just a little confused by "Ethiopian food". I thought those poor bastards were starving. Sally Struthers keeps asking me to send money, so you can see the dilemma here.

HARHARLOL!!!! GOOD ONE DOOD!!!!

Actually I'm pretty sure that the regional cuisines are much older than the climate, political, and socio-economic conditions which have caused famine there.

Ethiopian (sometimes 'Eritrean') is delicious. You should try it.

scarabic, m_c_d linked to the original post he made the ironic joke for.

That still doesn't mean it was that great of a joke.

Ethiopian (sometimes 'Eritrean')

Careful where you conflate those two. Wars have started over less.

The Bedele lager was also fantastic, absolutely the best and most interesting new beer I have had in ages.
posted by mwhybark at 5:59 PM on October 3, 2005

Bedele, to be precise.

That's one of the more surreal-looking meetups of which I've seen photos. Of this I approve.

Yes, Matt, the irony doth flow in both directions. It's a lame joke but a reasonable enough question to those with no direct experience with the food. I thought I might comment on it while we were on the subject. I'm jealous, too. We should do Ethiopian out here sometime. There're many good options, and beer goes well with it :)

Didn't U.N. Owen come up with the "Hurf-durf buttereater" thing?

Oh JVB, wherefor out thaow with thine wacky real name?

(in refrence to this pic)

What is this thing all about? Does it have something to do with smoking pot?

Isn't that a bit of a contradiction?

delmoi, click on the link under that photo and it'll take you right to the thread where the phrase was first used (yes, by u.n. owen).

More photos here. I wasn't happy with the way my flash turned out (and didn't have time to adjust levels), so I just posted the ones not already duplicated by fatllama.

Hurf durf buttereater has become a part of my regular vocabulary. u.n. owen be damned, that's just a funny phrase.

This really needs to happen again. Definitely. Thank you all for coming out to my first planned Meetup!

We could try all the Ethiopian restaurants in Seattle!
