It seems hard to believe that DaShiv does not travel with his own lighting crew, but 'tis true -- I have seen it with mine own eyes: he is just one man, armed with his magic camera.

Beautiful set, as ever! I was on the edge of my seat all day for it (as ever). East Bay Boyz Rool!
I had a fabulous time, of course. Doesn't Squirrel look dashing in my old moto jacket? And I think brundlefly is about the greatest thing to happen to SFBay meetups in some time. All of my laughter was tinged with tears, of course, over the unfair theft of one jerseygirl's presence. But I suppose we can hope there will be another time.
Having some inkling of the exacting work you put into all your photos, DaShiv, I'm not at all surprised that some of the billion-and-one shoutout photos wind up on the cutting room floor, but I'd like to note for their edification that I raised my glass (and a notecard) to Naxos and Gorilla Warfare, both celebrated in beer, if not in spirits (get it? dur!). I hear you have had a chain of schedule conflicts, Zach. Bummer. But look on the bright side: you've had something better to do!
Thanks to caitlinb and cali for getting us up and out. And thanks to Bob for the fine photos.

In attendance were: DaShiv, scarabic, squirrel, occhiblu, caitlinb, ikkyu2, brundlefly, cali, Loser, mjmoss, and one MeFite who declined to be identified online.
Thanks again to caitlinb for organizing -- you can see her photos here. As for the "handles toy camera" comment: remember that it's not the size that matters, it's how much you Photoshop the results.
Oh, and that goes for cameras, too.
And what's with you Flickr people using my name as a Flickr tag? There are three of you now. Are you people trying to keep tabs on me in public? Don't you remember that I'm a wanted man in eight states and five countries?
scarabic: Whoops, I had taken a break from the keyboard and the batch upload apparently ate the last four. They're online now.
C_D and scody: Ambient incadescent lights bounced off the walls, purple neon light coming in through the nearby window for accents, a strategically placed candle on the table in front her, f/1.2, ISO 3200, pushed an additional stop during RAW conversion (to ISO 6400 equivalent), and a lot of careful noise reduction in Photoshop. I wish I had a magic camera to do all that for me. :)

I love East Bay Boyz! I have all your albums!
From these photos, and caitlinb's in the other thread, it all looks so beautiful and magical... and I love that you are shanghaiing new mefites.
And squirrel, you are a sweetheart. I have some beautiful hazelnuts and extra-lovely pecans that I've been saving just for you, angelface.

Thanks for the sentiment, scarabic. I've been having the worst luck with meetups in the last few months. But, believe me, I really wanted to be there. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the next one.

So much for any pretensions of natural beauty.

Ah, so that's the trick. I shot a roll of 400 at f/1.4 in a dark bar this weekend, and I'm expecting it to come out shit. I guess I need to go buy some mega-fast film.

I didn't Photoshop my pictures, actually, even - especially - the ones Bob took, but then I don't have a reputation to uphold.
Matt, he came over and sat real close to us. We thought we might need that table as more people arrived, and in the end decided to have both - his delightful presence and that table for the meetup.
Now I'll run off and try to resolve my inner war between regret at making Bob feel exposed, and child-like glee that someone, somewhere, actually reads my tags.

Thanks to scarabic for the use of his Joey Ramone jacket. Wish you could have been there, gorillawarfare. Nice meeting you at scarabic's bike clinic. Hey, maybe we should have an East Bay bike meetup sometime. mjmoss (the n00b we recruited) had an inspiring fold-up bike that may pull me back into the cycle life. DaShiv, I saw most of your shots in-camera, and I must say that I am humbled before your color-correction work. Great shots, as always.

mjmoss's downfall was sitting near squirrel with a Mac laptop. That's like going and sitting next to a lion with a freshly killed gazelle dangling around your neck.

LOL. Sadly true. To make matters sadder, mjmoss has the same model of powerbook that I do; I can't even claim that I was trying to learn about a newer computer. I'm just like a moth to the Apple flame.

I always intend to go to the nyc meetups, but then at the last minute become paralyzed by the fear that someone there will be like "YOU'RE shmegegge?! You're the asshole who said he'd like to fuck my kid in the earhole!"
