I should dramatically kill myself, and return years later.
I did try to cut metafilter out of my life once. I even tried to edit my hosts file to banish the site. However, due to the use of wildcards this simplistic approach was not sufficient to block myself. posted by delmoi at 3:39 PM on October 24, 2005

No shit. This passage is especially piquant:
You pay for a "lap dance" and you pay a lot, but I'm not hurting for money. This was a special occasion. The previous month had been extremely bad for me (through no fault of my own) with the entire universe spending that entire time shitting on me, and I took a vacation in Vegas and decided that I was entitled spend some extra money to have someone, anyone, treat me extra nicely for a change. So I went to a strip club and paid beautiful young women to be particularly friendly to me.
This is not something I do often. Since moving to San Diego I've done it exactly once here. Partly that's because the rules in San Diego are braindead, but mostly because it just isn't my style. And I don't visit Vegas all that often. But in Vegas the dancers can and do dance nude and still get very close to the client (me) – at a very high price. But as I mentioned, I felt like treating myself, so I actually spent many hundreds of dollars on this, something I probably will never do again. (Understand that this represented a minor expense for me; because I am very well off financially.)
And they were women and they treated me like a man and I realized that I liked being treated like a man instead of like a male person.
*visualizes dhartung waxing forth on topic of lap dancing...*

I certainly am on the record, dhoyt, about how tiresome it is when someone keeps bringing up the same short list of disdained names in threads where those aforementioned disdained have yet to comment. A memorable quote by the subject of discusssion is, by contrast, far more germane to the topic at hand. So, pot, kettle, George Foreman Grill-- six of one, twelve dozen of another. Now now. This is no time for trashing the reception party. Disagree with SDB all you want, (and i do, largely.) he is a memorable member of mefi mostly missed. If we start talking shit about every member we disagreed with and think the site is better off without every member we had serious contentions with, then we're precisely the echo chamber dios always claimed we are. I, for one, would like to think we're not. If son_of_minya returned, so long as I had my weekly meta post to do it in, I would happily write up full meta reception post, complete with as many puns about right hand removal I could come up with.
