What happened to the redesign? November 15, 2005 8:37 AM Subscribe
Whatever happened to the great redesign? Lack of time on the part of our great leader or did something go horribly wrong?
Wow, this has come up quite a bit in recent discussions and I couldn't really be bothered, but now I see fandango_matt's design my enthusiasm is renewed. Cool!

Looks really nice. I do hope it will be implemented.
Without trying to derail, it would be nice if the simple theme worked outside of Metafilter (into ask and metatalk) and that my font choice is reflected in the input form.
At the moment I have a nice Tahoma 10pt, but the form looks to be still using Verdana.

It was mentioned somewhere else as well relating to Matt's pile of things to do now that this is his full-time.

Now that Metafilter Projects ("ProjeMeFi") is running the new template, Matt says there are a couple of CSS issues the iron out. Once they're resolved it will just take some massaging to get the existing MeFi and MeTa data to fit into the new template.
Easy.
However, don't wait underwater.

I read this as "However, don't wear underwear."

odinsdream; Yes it is possible to enforce the formatting of an input box in HTML. From the code, Matt just needs to change the textarea style element from "width:400px;height:200px;" to "width:400px;height:200px;font:{user defined size} {user defined fonts};" and it would be good to go.
Based on my preference settings that would be "width:400px;height:200px;font:10pt Tahoma;".
If he really wanted, he could do that for the button font too - but that is probably overkill.

Well, he'd have to wipe it all away afterwards, that's all I'm sayin'.

Weird. I deamt about the redesign last night. I must be on here too much this week. In my dream, Matt accidentally released a chunk of the new design to the front page and it broke a nuch of stuff and people were freaking out in MeTa that MeFI is broken! and assuming it was essentially the apolcolypse.

Projects also kind of shows the problem with it. Once you scroll down past the header, it's boring white with black text.

But the projects template sucks. How can it be the new template for the entire site?

Heartily seconded. Not only is it boring, but you completely lose any sense of site identity.

Please! not eye-popping white backgrounds! Think of the children mefites who read almost every word! White would be like looking into a projector for hours.

I third (fourth? fifth?) the idea that the projects template is worse than what we've got now.

White backgrounds suck. Whatever serif font Metafilter in looks like a hybrid between verdana and courier. Not cool.

Wasn't Matt's last answer to this something around "You would all freak out, so no."?

Because he's busy writing an email to accept my offer of migrating metafilter away from Coldfusion, silly!

I'm pretty sure i remember matt announcing a public ta-da list to let people keep track of his to do items for metafilter, and to avoid meta threads like these.
Yup, here it is, last updated in april 05 though, so i guess its been discontinued.
