Is this wiki mefi-related? December 7, 2005 3:21 PM   Subscribe

Is the website http://mssv.net/wiki.cgi?Home just a blog or is there some connection between it and metafilter? I was just getting more background info and this one seemed a tad OTT. Please don't tell me there's people praying towards SF.

P.S. The search option could be much better. Sorry Matt.

is there some connection between it and metafilter?

Yes. See here, under Metafilter resources, although it's no longer up top, where it used to be. Curious.

Jesus christ. Look at the nav bar. See the words 'MeFi Wiki'?

Yeah, click on those.

Are you still livid?

On the blue, the "etc." that is.

Are you still livid?

Oooh. Snap.

It's a community-edited wiki, run by adrianhon. But evidently it's endorsed as the official MetaFilter wiki, as the previous posters have pointed out.

It's not a blog. Like every other wiki, its contents are created and edited by its users -- that is, whoever visits the site and decides to make a contribution. Therefore it will be tongue-in-cheek in places, and it's not the Official Word of Mattâ„¢.

just a blog?

No, it's a wiki, run on space paid for by Mefi's adrianhon.

Er, what chrismear said.

What's OTT mean? Off-topic-topic?

I link the wiki from the sidebar on the front page of MetaTalk now, y'know. It's not official, but has tons of good information that anyone can contribute too.

*prays toward meccaMeFi*

What? No, it's ok. Relax. I'm only praying for the Holy and Cleansing Fire of Judgement.

OTT=over the top (A UK expression. I'm sure it's known in the US as well, anyway!)

Stavros,Kosem: I'm no longer livid. I received a nice email from jessamyn and realised I was being a prick.

Stavros: Meta Wiki : I thought someone could have been riding on Matt's site.

WTF does that nonsense accomplish?

A bit of friendly shame-the-newbie. movilla's posted two threads to Metatalk, including this one, and as he's graciously acknowledged, neither have been exactly stellar. My implication was that perhaps he might want to step back and have a coffee before the next time the urge strikes.

That's WTFLOLBBQ, hopefully without being OTT, but then again, IANAA.

Thanks Stavros. Yes, I am a newbie to Meta but I have been around on the internet for quite a while. My knock backs on meta are well deserved and I acknowledge it. I think my issue is that while meta is good, I find it frustrating cause it is rather conservative.

It accomplishes me going "oh, it's that guy". Is that right? I don't know.

And here the thread really begins.

My love of pancakes doesn't even resemble conservative. I'm quite liberal with the butter and syrup.

OK, OK, I am an A. Just not the kind of A I was thinking of at the time.
posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 4:59 PM on December 7, 2005

No, you're both kinds.

Ambiguity: What is conservative, movilla?

Does "meta" mean MeTa (MetaTalk)? Is MetaTalk conservative?

Does "meta" mean MetaFilter? Is MetaFilter conservative?

Does "meta" just mean meta, in which case it (whatever it is) is metaconservative? In that case, Metaconservative=?

I was just about to post a few things when I saw Kosem's quotes.

I think Metafilter has huge potential. There's things about it I like alot. It has great potential

I think he's at least three kinds of A.

Please give an example of a community blog that has met its potential?
posted by Mijo Bijo at 5:20 PM on December 7, 2005

If it's conservative, it has a potential by definition.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, movilla, but that's not what 'conservative' means.

Chrismear, You need to check out UK politics. Do have know who Cameron is?
posted by movilla at 6:02 PM on December 7, 2005

They actually have politics in other countries? Fuck. We're doomed.

I was just about to explain to movilla once again that it's not such a good idea to enter a community and promptly bitch about it but then I remembered I'd rather clean out all the toilets in Grand Central Station with my tongue.

I think the disconnect that is going on here is due to the american/british language barrier.

before this turns into the movilla show, I'm going to close it up, as the wiki was completely explained.
