Meetup in San Antonio with Jessamyn, Jan. 2006 January 23, 2006 8:56 PM   Subscribe

San Antonio anyone? I'm wrapping up a library conference and all the librarians leave Wednesday and I'm here til Thursday. Anyone up for beer/food/riverwalking Wednesday night? [alternately, any mefibrarians still at ALA?]

Alas, I'm not in San Antonio... but get off the Riverwalk for the best Mexican food! (I grew up there, 18 years... and cannot recommend any more you fleeing the Riverwalk for the best food.)

Hop into a cab, ask for El Mercado (the Mexican market, downtown), and stroll to La Margarita -- some of the best food you'll eat in San Antonio, pretty casual. If it's crowded, or for a bit of an even more casual meal, go about six doors down to the sister restaurant, Mi Tierra.

Enjoy San Antonio!

Ah, dang. I left San Antonio two years ago.

However, I second getting off of the Riverwalk for good Mexican food. And Mi Tierra is pretty good (haven't done La Margarita but imagine as they're sister spots, that it will also be good).

My favorite Mexican place, though...well, actually it's Tex-Mex...Martha's, at the corner of Broadway and Loop 410. Casual dining and great food, at least two years ago it was.

If all the librarians are attending a conference at San Antonio, who is watching all the books?! Looting time!

Thanks all, yes the riverwalk is ridiculous, but at least it's close by. Any MeFiBrarians seeing this can swing by the Council meeting at 12:30 today [Tues] if you want to get lunch.

Jess, trust me when I say that Mi Tierra and La Margarita are also closeby -- a cab ride, sure, but it's a less-than-ten-minute cab ride. And get the chile con queso (which is the original inspiration for my queso.com domain name!).
