CNN ignored us March 2, 2006 11:23 AM   Subscribe

I have to admit, I was slightly disappointed that Mehfee was not included in this Web 2.0 fanboy schlock story.

Your point being?? So were not 2.0, big deal. We are proud of who we are, so were not that concerned about being 2.0. That is all.

Here are 9.65 billion other pages that don't talk about MetaFilter. Enjoy!

Metafilter's not particularly Web 2.0, aside from the tagging. It's been around forever.

And besides, the place isn't called MetaFiltr. That "e" is holding us back.

Sigh. Web 2.0 doesn't mean "new". Web 2.0 means love for the community. We're Web 2.1.

Perhaps I should've phrased things more eloquently. I guess my point was, that although I tire of the all the buzzwords and hype, I do enjoy seeing MetaFilter and our illustrious mathowie get mentioned in major media outlets, and, nay, a twinge of disappointment when not included in something like CNN's "best of Web 2.0" list. I guess I'm a sucker for fanboy schlock.

It's funny because I've always thought of MetaFilter as the prototypical "2.0" siteā€”not defined so much by a feature or set of features, but the whole content-driven community experience that has gained attention now that more creative revenue models have made these types of sites more viable. I guess I was a bit curious as to what others thought about MetaFilter's place in the Pantheon. Perhaps I shall curl up in a fetal position instead. Or go back to Fark.

wait, so now metafilter-related covers things that aren't even related to Metafilter?

That's all grand. I like MeFi the way it is. If it were ever to become "more" it would take more than a staff of 1 to make it happen, plain and simple. There's marketing to do, coding to do, QA to do, community management to do, design to do, server engineering to do blah blah blah. Just because Matt kep this place running in his spare time for a couple of years doens't mean it's viable to play in the big leagues anytime soon just because he quit his job.
