Is this really what AskMe is for? There's some good conversation in there, to be sure, but it's treading a real fine line between "genuinely want to know an answer to my quesion" and "trying to start a conversation with my question".

why hasn't anybody taken out antifuse yet?

And yes, I did flag it already... but if other people can callout then so can I dammit! :)

Oh I did, but he wanted to go to second base on the first date and I thought that was just too tacky, so I didn't tell anyone.

and here he is trying to have his way with AskMe

What does it hurt?

I thought it was a borderline post that hadn't been flagged at all by the time I went to sleep last night and it still hasn't been given much attention today. Discussion in that thread is mostly civil.

Well, when we delete most other "discussion-based" askme threads, and leave this one, it sets a dangerous precedent (IMO). And it's not so much that I have a problem with it, it just doesn't seem like a very AskMe-ish question.

Agreed.

I mean, why hasn't Kenny G been killed yet for the things HE does?

I thought it was a good question that's gotten some excellent, thoughtful responses.

While I'm here, since Matt closed the previous thread I just want to say that his final comment is one of the greatest things I've read on MetaFilter:

It's no biggie. removed the hitler.

I thought it was lame, but not quite lame enough to delete. Ask Mefi really isn't for "what's the deal with X?" questions, because there is so much opinion and so little facts wrapped up in it.

Which is why Jerry Seinfeld will never be welcome at AskMe.

All else aside:

Also, I admit I'm a noob, but I thought this kind of stuff was supposed to be handled by flagging instead of callouts?

There is hope yet for this generation.
