I have it on good authority that pressure is being even know applied to our Hat to undertake such an endeavor. posted by cortex at 11:24 AM on April 14, 2006
Kudos! And for the record, I still think that he should be referred to as "Mr. Hat". posted by gsteff at 12:15 PM on April 14, 2006
Yikes—I checked my referrer logs and every single visit was from Slate. Better vacuum the place and change out of this ratty t-shirt... Oh, and my technical advisors are even now explaining to me what this "pod-casting" thing involves; in my day we used string and tin cans, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it eventually.
*casts a few pods experimentally*
Thanks for the sound file, dgaicun; I'll have "Movin' On Up" blasting as I vacuum! posted by languagehat at 12:20 PM on April 14, 2006

It's more or less the same thing now, but they use really big cans, like the ones in the back room of the high school cafeteria. posted by jonmc at 12:23 PM on April 14, 2006
Aha! So he always wears the hat because he needed plugs? But why'd they only give him one?
Congrats, LH! Let's hear it for from you! posted by soyjoy at 1:04 PM on April 14, 2006
I originally found Metafilter through reading languagehat and languagehat is one of those contributors whose comments I always read. Very much deserved. posted by Falconetti at 1:08 PM on April 14, 2006

Irregardless of the several times he's taken me to task for this and that here, I've always thought languagehat was one of the best things about MetaFilter. Grats. posted by y6y6y6 at 2:44 PM on April 14, 2006

Oh, I get it now, y6y6y6 was making a little joke to see if the usually nonjudgmental Mr. Hat would take him to task yet again. posted by Cranberry at 2:49 PM on April 14, 2006
languagehat is just all over the web being helpful; I especially like his language-uncovering annotations in the Pepys Blog! posted by By The Grace of God at 3:22 PM on April 14, 2006
languagehat don't pay no nevermind to no "irregardless" seeing as he's all about language is evolving and whatnot. He ain't no prescriptivist hater and shit. posted by TimeFactor at 3:38 PM on April 14, 2006

matteowrites"too bad most of his blog stuff flies high above my head"
That's at least partly why I like it. Eminently readable, often difficult, always enjoyable. I'm an infrequent but regular visitor and agree that M. Hat deserves accolades, plugs, riches and a microphone. languagehat makes MeFi a better place too. Thanks 'hat. posted by peacay at 6:26 AM on April 15, 2006

I *heart* languagehat.
And the fact that matteo (who I also secretly *heart*, in spite of the fact that I often wish he'd spend his time pushing a wet rope uphill...) is giving the props just underscores why this place is Teh Cool. posted by Cyrano at 1:52 PM on April 15, 2006
