San Francisco Meetup, Early November? October 12, 2006 8:46 PM   Subscribe

Any interest in a San Francisco meetup in early November? I'll be making my first ever foray out of Eastern Standard Time, in order to attend a training course held in San Francisco; I'd be up for something just about any evening from the 5th through the 10th.

Sounds cool to me.

How about Thursday the 9th at The Rite Spot?

That might work; I should mention that I will likely not have a car, so the venue should be someplace convenient to public transit :)

Hmmm ... I'm trying to think of a place with food, full bar, and some atmosphere. Where will you be? The Rite Spot is 3-4 blocks from 16th & Mission Bart but not the most beautiful four blocks. I could drive you back.

I'd be up for it.

We're staying here, a hotel near the airport in San Bruno, since I'm in town for a training session which takes place at another nearby hotel (about a mile away, basically across the nearby Tanforan Shopping Center). I understand there's a BART station at the mall, which is how I intend to get into the rest of the city during our trip.

Just a note: The single largest complaint about any meet-up I've been to is noise level. Atmosphere is good, but so is being able to hear the other people at the table. I've never been to the Rite Spot, so it may be great, but just something to consider.

Also, I'd likely be interested, depending on work/school commitments that week.

Definitely up for it; Rite Spot does look possibly loud (live music -- although apparently it doesn't start until 9) but I've never been there so am not voting against it at all.

We were recently debating the appropriateness of the Last Supper Club; they have long tables with benches, so good for groups. However, there's only room for about 10 at a table, and there have been complaints about people being split up at past get-togethers. Possibly it would also be a bit loud (from conversation), but less so on a Thursday night than at weekends.

There's also the 21st Amendment. Beer & pizza/garlic fries. The upstairs is not too loud.

Last Supper Club is cool, though am I remembering that it might be a bit pricey? Great drinks.

Further -- Last Supper Club has a downstairs that is quiet -- but I don't know if it's open every night.

Beer & pizza/garlic fries.

You had me at hello.

I go to 21st Amendment at least once a week, so I'd probably stop by if it ended up there. Noise is fine, but it's not that big. Thursday should be fine, though, as long as there's not a ball game. If there is game, you're screwed.

It should be said that Zeitgeist is the coolest bar in SF, but is in a constant state of over-crowded. Part of its charm. I'd love to see a meet-up there some time, but it takes a certain amount of commitment which will probably never occur.

Whatever you do, make sure to try and get DaShiv on board. It ain't a meetup without DaShiv.

I agree with occhiblu, not being able to hear people put a damper on my last meetup experience. And I'm with anybody who said "let's do it near a BART".

Garlic fries, eh? Intriguing. So far, all of these sound good. I suppose we can post another thread closer to the actual date and hash out the details then, if no obvious concensus arises from this one (considering it's already 2 pages back in the archives...).

Thanks again for the interest :)

I emailed DaShiv using the address on his (her? can't remember) profile and invited him to this thread, but no answer yet. I'll post a new thread this week if that's okay with everyone.

There's no ball game as in baseball that Thursday, the Series is over the week before (go Tigers!). I just wanted to put my vote in for Toronado being the coolest bar in the city, if not one totally nonappropriate for a meetup.

Oh, hell yeah! Toronado is the best place to get a beer, but not the best place to hang out. It's small and ugly and crowded, and has like fifty great beers on tap. Perfect for a few folks, terrible for a meetup. Zeitgeist is like Heavy Metal Parking Lot, while Toronado is like hanging out backstage with Judas Priest.
