Quartermass gets an academic teaching gig! October 18, 2006 9:25 AM Subscribe
Congratulations Quartermass on you first academic teaching gig! Earlier this year he successfully defended The Thesis and has now been signed up to teach Sociology of Mass Communication.
Ahem, we'll all get shoutouts to your class, right?

Let me see if I've got this right: you're expecting to get tenure with a picture of an elephant?

I look forward to being namechecked on an exam.
Dude, he's teaching sociology, not anatomy.

Now that he's a teacher, he's legally allowed to diss posts on MeFi with the following blistering put-down.

MUST TRY HARDER! F--."
Congrats Mr. Quartermass!

Yay! Way to go! The topic (the byline topic, not just MeTa) is a subject of academic interest to me, as well. Good to know you got a paying gig to talk about it. Grats.

Wow, my first callout!
Yep, I got my first academic teaching job. Which only goes to show that reading Metafilter pays.
Not very well, mind you...

Speaking as a recent PhD in my second year of teaching full time - welcome to the grind. If you make it through the first year, you can make it. The little punks will wear you down, you'll be up late at night working on lectures, and you'll be sleep-deprived as hell - but you can make it. Good luck!
