CONFIRMED: NYC meetup on Sunday, December 3, to celebrate the release of MeFiComp!

As first proposed here, we'll meet at Solas (232 E. 9th St., b/t 2nd and 3rd Aves., 1 block north of St. Marks). I know the management, and do a monthly event there already. They have a side room (The Coal Bar) that is normally unused on Sundays, so we'll have the room mostly to ourselves. I'm thinking 6 pm would be a good start time. More details within.

This will be a listening party, featuring selections from the CD plus an eclectic blend of other tunes. I'm planning to do DJ duties, but would love to share them with one or two other MeFites. Any volunteers?

The plan is to have copies of MeFiComp on hand and available for purchase (all profits go to The Mockingbird Foundation, which supports music education for kids).

It would be great if anyone interested in picking up a copy of the CD could say so in this thread, so that we can get a rough idea of how many to have on hand. They are selling for $12 (including shipping) on the MeFiComp site; I'm guessing that we'll be able to give you a slightly better price at the party by having them bulk-shipped, but I don't have an exact dollar figure at the moment.

Thanks to cortex for masterminding the whole MeFiComp project, to ThePinkSuperhero for agreeing to help out with CD sales, and to my fellow MeFite musicians who made the album as cool as it is. (You can listen to MP3 clips here.)

Yaay, sounds fun.

Sounds good. I'll probably buy a CD. However, can I suggest moving it up to 5? Being a Sunday, I think a little earlier would help. But I am nerdy and go bed to eary.

Good job setting this up.

Dame: It should be OK to get there at 5 if you want. I'm pretty sure the bar is open for business by 5 on Sundays, but I'll double check this weekend.

I'll show and I'd be willing to DJ for a bit...

I'll get there at 5.

Andrewraff: Cool. I hope you'll bring a recording of your MySpace hit.

I would like to buy a cd. Yay! Fun!

If I can make it, I'll definitely buy a CD.

This sounds like a great time. I think I ordered a CD already. Maybe I'll want to give one as a Christmas gift, though.

Further note to andrewraff: Bring CDs (or an MP3 player). You could bring vinyl -- the DJ booth does have turntables -- but you'd need to bring your own cartridges.

Rock and roll! TPS, A_E: get on the horn (the email horn) with me and we'll figure out shipping details. With the CDs likely showing up in PDX tomorrow, I should be able to get them off toward NYC at a leisurely (and correspondingly inexpensive) pace.

Assuming the shipping is cheap enough, I'd be happy to see 'em sold for $10 straight across the board. And any leftovers may become the responsibility of the NYC Street Team—sell 'em and pay me off, or ship 'em back if you can't.

I'm rolling up a little bit of a calendar/event system for meficomp.com, so I'll get this up on there to test it out. Woo!

Cortex: Sounds good! Let's just wait a day or two, to see how many people request a copy of the CD here, before we settle on a number for you to ship.

Perhaps ironically, I can't make the meetup and listening party because I'll be in the studio with my band finishing up our ep.

Have fun!

I suggest that we push this meetup forward by one day.

Speaking of CDs...

bingo: I've already cleared the date with the bar. They tend to have big crowds on other nights of the week, so the space wouldn't be available. Sorry...

I was kidding.

I plan on going, and will buy a CD at the party.

Well, you succeeded in confusing me as to whether you wanted it to happen one day sooner or one day later. :) That's why I answered ambiguously...

I'm gonna try and make it. And regardless of whether I can or not, put me down for a CD (Pinks can put it on my tab if I don't show)

Put it on your tab? I make no guarantees, son.

Okay. I'm really going to try and come this time. Seriously.

And I might buy a CD when I'm there. But I'm not 100 percent positive yet.

So its on for 5pm then? That works better for me too, I fly Monday mornings so Sunday night is packing.

I'll buy a CD at 5:01.

(Just please be somewhat nice to me, first mefi meetup and all)

Yes, there will be people there at 5.

Planning to be there (though I've already ordered my CD online) - but maybe not till 7 or 8 - with everything starting so early will we still have a quorum then ?

How is Solas about IDs? I'm just barely 20, and I don't have (or want) a fake.
posted by booksandlibretti at 8:56 PM on November 28, 2006

AuntLisa: I am planning on DJing for at least a couple of hours, and I think Andrewraff is too. So I expect we'll be there till 9 pm at the very least... hopefully later.

booksandlibretti: Very laid back. No one cards at the door, and I don't recall ever seen the bartenders card. You'll definitely be able to get in.
