Matt looks like Sylar November 28, 2006 7:37 AM Subscribe
So, did anyone else watch "Heroes" last night and think that Sylar looks just like Matt Haughey?
*visits shows website*
Sylar is unidentified and none of the pictured cast looks even vaguely like Matt.

The actor's name is Zachary Quinto. IMHO, he resembles Matt Haughey only to the extent that all tall, dark haired men resemble one another.

Ha! My wife said he looked like Clark Kent, and I had to bite my lip, because I was thinking "No sweetie, he looks just like mathowie" and I didn't want to have to explain that thought.

That actor was quite funny as Tori Spelling's gay friend on So NoTORIous.
Yes, I watched it. Wanna fight?
Also: I don't see it, but I do with Quitely's Clark Kent, especially in that cover image.

I did, but didn't think it merited a post to the grey. So thank you for pointing it out.
I'm disappointed, though, because I had this cool theory that it was actually Peter, only he'd learned to keep the powers he borrowed (possibly by 'memorizing' them, using the waitress' power?). So he got Hiro's power and then travelled back in time from the future, because he'd been driven insane (as an empath, right?) by all the killings/the apocalypse/whatever badness is going to happen, and thought that killing all the 'heroes' was the only way to stop the impending doomening.

Also, I saw a sneak peek for next week's episode and Sylar is shown riding a recumbent bike. Hmm.

Can I put that on my résumé? MetaFilter's [own] Falconetti says I should have the job, Mr. Bigtime Hollywood Exec. SO JUST PLAIN DO IT ALREADY.
Mid, he's also got a similar nose and head-shape, haircut... I could go on.
If I do indeed take up writing comic books for a living, I will indeed create a character called "Number One" based on Matt. His superpowers will be simply listed as "admin" and he will be simultaneously loved and feared by all.

Oh, and Jessamyn will be in it, too. She will be called "The Ref", meaning both referee (similar powers to admin) and reference (as in unending supply of information). I only hope I can write the character to be as cool and sweet as the real thing.

The Wife and I saw the Clark Kent thing as well. But now that is has been mentioned, have we ever actually seen Matt and Superman at the same time? Because it would explain a lot.
Interesting Heroes tidbit, according to IMDB, Sylar was going to be played by Sean Bean. They had it listed for quite a while (much to the disappointment of several of my co-workers who were really unhappy that they had stumbled across such a big spoiler.) The brilliant thing is that apparently Bean was never attached to the project, which leads me to believe that the producers of the show are fouling the waters with fake spoilers to keep people guessing.

no script doctoring! the show is going along perfectly as is, i think...taking everybody back six months last night was awesome! it's neat when they do something like that, or even something subtle, that puts an entirely different spin on everything...
so are the powers showing up all of a sudden because of some anticipated showdown, or did the search for them by the geneticist somehow activate them? though the evil twin lady (i wonder how she'll make her powers useful) seems to have absorbed her sister many years back (like 89 or so)...and how was he locating them such that a program would specify names and locations? i should have studied everything more closely in the early episodes...
and hiro popping into the exercise yard was brilliant, i thought! totally random and strange, and neat visually as well...

Another tidbit, from the Heroes wiki:
A photograph on NBC's Heroes site shows a birth announcement for a Paul E. Sylar, dated June 11, 1962. The announcement appears to be pinned next to the map in Chandra Suresh's Brooklyn apartment. However, the casting of 29 year-old Zachary Quinto seems contrary to this information, as does the revelation that "Sylar" is an assumed name. In all likelihood, since the announcement only ever appeared clearly in promotional photos, the character concept has changed since the original announcement was designed and there is no "Paul E. Sylar".
Sean Beans birthday? 1959. So it could be that Bean was originally supposed to play the character but they changed it somewhere along the line.

And how the heck would he (Suresh) find Claire if she's not even related to her parents, and doesn't know who her birth parents are? These are the things that keep me awake at night. </nerd>

blue_beetle, we don't know where Suresh's list came from. It's possible that it is based on bloodwork that came after Claire was adopted (or something).
And I like the fact that, unlike J.J. Abrams shows, I actually believe that one day I might get answers to these questions.

So some professor in India has access to a database containing the dna mappings of every person on Earth, and that's the bit you're concerned about? Or is this what the whole Google Genome project is about? Just type "Blond Hair, Ability To Fly, A Positive blood type" and hit "I'm feeling lucky".

Ah, thank you! I was wondering why he looked familiar! Yeah, there's definitely a resemblance, in that "there's a limited number of faces in the world and sometimes two people share part of one" way.
