I'm testing out ajax favorites on MeFi December 29, 2006 9:59 PM   Subscribe

I'm testing out ajax favorites on MeFi right now (only www.metafilter.com). If you open any thread you can add the post or any comment as a favorite without leaving the page. Lemme know if you hit any snags and please hold off on "but, but, can you also make it do x?" requests until we're sure it works in most all browsers.

Ah ha, works for me! Firefox 1.5.09 for Mac.

Ah ok. I thought I was going crazy when this started happening. Apparently it works pretty well.

Works for me... (Camino 2006091101 [1.0.3])

Spiffy. The failure case works too it seems ("You've already favorited this").

Neato!
Firefox 2.0.0.1 on XP

Yeah, I discovered the failure case when I wasn't sure if the favorite had gone through or not. Pretty spiffy. I guess next up is ajax flagging, huh?

Well done, sir. FFX 2.0, win xp

Worked for me in FF 2 and IE 7.

So I take it this is your alibi for when they hanged Saddam?
posted by wendell at 10:33 PM on December 29, 2006

FF2, IE7 XP all clear, cap'n.
posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 10:51 PM on December 29, 2006

Worked for me too on Firefox 2.0.0.1, XP Pro.

Also IE 7.0.5730.11 (a truly ridiculous version number).

I hope this means a lighter server load!

Dinner is the fucking alibi, Wendell. Dinner.

I just saw the new functionality work and immediately clicked over to Metatalk to thank you!

I know YOUR alibi, jess, I was asking about matt's on the other coast...
posted by wendell at 12:04 AM on December 30, 2006

I was at costco. Parking alone is like two hours. Saddam was dead before I even got my 600 rolls of toilet paper back to the car.

In favoriting this thread (firefox 2.0.0.1, OsX), I definitely left the page, although I was redirected back immediately.

bingo, that's because, and I quote, "only www.metafilter.com". This is MetaTalk. It's not here, yet.
posted by Plutor at 6:44 AM on December 30, 2006

Oh. Good point.
posted by bingo at 7:07 AM on December 30, 2006

It might work too easily. I predict a plethora of multi-favorited posts and comments, to the point where favorites become meaningless.

But then, maybe that's the point.

Matt, these are totally sweet.

Opera 9.1 fine, XP.

Firefox 2.0.0.1 on FreeBSD 6.1/KDE 3.5.5 works great.

WAY cool feature, that favorite add.

Wendell, seriously you're starting to sound querulous. Is your rheumatism acting up? You're almost at the quonsar level of picking on mathowie lately, have you noticed?
posted by Lynsey at 11:48 PM on December 30, 2006

Works for me.
Now a word of advice for mathowie:
If you are a business member of Costco, you can shop at 10AM on weekdays, before the general membership is admitted at 11AM. Well worth the $55.00 a year business fee.
OTOH how much TP can 3 people use...the 600 rolls should last a while.
posted by Cranberry at 11:58 PM on December 30, 2006

Lynsey, are you serious about wendell? wendell's one of the most jocular posters I've noticed around here. Where's the querulous sound you're hearing?
posted by cgc373 at 11:58 PM on December 30, 2006

Works fine on Camino (1.0.3), the other Mozilla browser.

Oh, man. It's nice to have that petty annoyance gone. Thanks, numero uno!
posted by deborah at 10:28 AM on January 1, 2007

matt, do you plan on tagging the date one added it to favorites, or the date of the favorited thing? I would vote for using the date of the favorited thing. Because it seems to come up as the date one added it, which I don't particularly care for. You asked.
