Sock Puppet News: I don't know if I am completely behind the curve and everyone already knows, but in this thread cortex gets the strings all tangled up, and accidentaly outs himself as the puppet master behind Astro Zombie and/or Astro Zombie 2 and/or InfidelZombie... I think.

Oh no! cortex must be broken. A broken cortex results in more zombie-like behaviour.

Yeah, to be tediously clear: I was totally fucking around. I am not an Astro Zombie; I merely admire his work.

Broken Sarcasm-meter Filter.

Also, Sock Puppet News is begging to be a Muppet segment.

I heard Astro Zombie is the father of Anna Nicole Smith's child.
Advise, please.

That's good, as I tend to find the AZs tiringly schticky fairly often.
Not like Pot and Kettle. Those were some laffs.

God. My first call out. What a week it's been for me.

I try to keep the other Astro Zombie out of the blue unless there's some compelling reason for their presence.
posted by Astro Zombie at 11:43 PM on February 15, 2007

Zombies, rather. There's actually four, but one of them doesn't post here.

This thing is my only sock, created when I was experimenting with the newly-launched gift account system. I don't really like logging in and out, because I have different setting at home and at work (normal theme home, plain theme work) and I have to re-jigger my profile settings at one or the other if I log out and back in again. Which quells even what limited temptation I have to make silly sock jokes.

I've always liked the Zombies, but then I've always been a big fan of zombies in general; and zombie threads or discussions that happen to turn to zombies are one of those circumstances where silly jokes by sockpuppet walk-ons seem less troublesome than normal. As of a couple days ago, 2 and 3 had something like 15 and 7 total comments, respectively, to their names; so I don't think AZ's boys can even be accused of obnoxious schtickery as they don't show up too often.

*Turns on batman style deductive reasoning*

Astrozombies eat cortexes...

The Cortex is the center of the soul

Soul, soul, soul... The godfather of Soul... James Brown...

James Brown is dead

James Brown is dead was a hit for LA Style

LA Style performed techno

Technotronic played on The TMNT soundtrack

Splinter was in the TMNT movie

Burgess Meredith got a splinter in Rocky.

Burgess Meredith is the Penguin...

Therefor Astrozombie is the Penguin's sockpuppet.

But Burgess Meredith was also "Tumblers Fuller" in The Chrystler Theater. Are you trying to tell me AstroZombie would rather be 'The Penguin' than 'Tumblers Fuller'?
I just don't buy it.

I've always liked Infidel Zombie because he reminds me of that Dickies' song, "Infidel Zombie."

I've always suspected there's only like a handful of actual people posting to MeFi under a multitude of sockpuppet accounts. This is all one big "No soap...Radio!" joke on me, isn't it?
posted by Gamblor at 7:28 AM on February 16, 2007

It's not that they're the same person, it's just that the internet by its nature forces people to mold their behavior in the form of a limited set archetypes.

Hence you can visit any on-line site and run into the same "people" over and over again.

See, I'm way behind the times. That song was the first time I'd figured out the crunchland/Dave Faris thing.
posted by koeselitz at 9:25 AM on February 16, 2007

Me, too.
posted by Dave Faris at 10:09 AM on February 16, 2007

He's actually Astro Zombie: the song is just the latest salvo in a long series of deceptive posts designed to, ultimately, prompt a stunned MeTa post from Meatbomb.

It didn't work out quite right.

And, oddly enough, I only included the crunch/Dave thing because I thought it was so above-the-board at this point, and because it represented a clearcut example of benign identity transfer (as opposed to dhoytish psychopuppetry or IRFHian joke accounts).
