Why can't I add a hyperlink in MeTa? February 18, 2007 4:00 PM   Subscribe

In trying to flag this post, http://ask.metafilter.com/57197/Dont-Worry-Be-Happy as the worst sort of existential Chatfilter/guideline buster, I realized there isn't a 'link' feature in MetaTalk. And I am an HTML cretin. I expect this is intentional, or I'm missing something obvious.

It's quieter here than I would have imagined.

fine, removed. I saw it earlier and yeah it was kind of chatty, but I figured it was a sunday afternoon and maybe it'd be ok.

Burhanistan - you know, I tried, but in a chimp-like, mimicry sort of way. I created a gibberish link in MeFi and copied, exactly, what I saw. But it wouldn't work. Which I know must sound comical, because it's obviously one of the stupider ways to go about things, but I figured there was a reason Number One put all that stuff in the comment field.

docpops: the make a link, use this text:

[a href="http://www.wikipedia.org"]Wikipedia[/a]

Replace those square brackets with angle brackets. It will look like this: Wikipedia.

Thanks. But what is the larger reason for not having a 'link' feature when building a MeTa post?

And why you shouldn't use them.

The best part about why you shouldn't use them is when they say that blinking or scrolling text might be illegal. Heh.

Ok, that was a terrible deletion. It was a very specific question about a very real problem. Since when does MeFi frown on that?

"Link" feature? Hmmmph. Real men* build MeTa posts from their own flesh, which they rip apart in bloody fistfulls and painstakingly piece together in an epic struggle of sheer, awesome willpower.

*women, too.

Whereas real smart men [NOT SEXIST] build their MeTa posts from the flesh of their fallen enemies, not forgetting the surgical gloves.

Who actually composes posts in the Meta input boxes anyways? You never can tell when JRun is going to come along and eat your post.
