Are you a bookkeeper?

What I mean is that, the other day, I posted an askme and it posted twice. Inexplicably (and against what should be the mefi rules). Matthowie thought it was strange. Now, making things a favorite has done the same.

weird. Are you on a strange corporate network with a cache server or something?

Can you see that I favorited his last comment? For me, it currently shows + 1 favorite, but clicking it says no one has favorited it. I've refreshed several times. This was after a favorite, remove favorite, re-favorite.

Okay - now it's showing up. I wonder if there's enough of a delay to allow doubling up?

I'm pretty sure I do a lookup to make sure you can't favorite something twice. You should see a "you already added this as a favorite" message when you try to do that.

I do. I've tried all the combinations I could think of, and can't duplicate. Must be something specific to rbs' setup.

It's weird. I only clicked to favorite it once, but it showed up twice.

I am at a middle school that has some websense proxy or something. But mefi shouldn't let that break it, right?

Weird.

Perhaps it is some evil karmic commentary on his tendency to spell "mathowie" with two t's.

You're like Gully Foyle in The Stars My Destination. One of those rbs's is burning.

breezeway's comment needs ascii art to follow it, but not from I.

Huh. I just noticed that this old post of mine was double favorited by jshort. Weird.

It's not weird. It's nothing sinister. It's a dumb bug and I'm sure Matt will figure it out - provided it's on his end there's an issue. Maybe you need to fix the settings on your mouse or something.

Go into your browser settings, click Advanced, scroll down a bit, and uncheck the "Double Post" option.

Dimensional gateway? Are we seeing manifestations of a mirror-rbs?

I wonder if this is similar to my problem wherein every once in a while, a comment I make gets posted twice... or thrice! To the amusement of many.

Do you lock the database before doing the check until after doing the update? Because otherwise, if two instances of the script are run at the same time, they can both do the check, find nothing wrong, and then both do the save, resulting in two favourites being added.
