Positive feedback for AskMe from therapist March 20, 2007 7:47 PM   Subscribe

"I am in therapy, and my therapist has agreed with me that Ask MeFi has resulted in some really intelligent and meaningful answers before." Nice feedback for AskMe.

Ask MeFi has resulted in some really intelligent and meaningful answers before

Once, twice- maybe even three times.

That anonymous fellow really ought to see a doctor about that, right away.

Ah, but is s/he a doctor, or a lawyer? The distinction matters.

My therapist is a doctor and a lawyer. But she doesn't know about Metafilter.

They're just completing the feedback loop - we feed them patients with any and all issues, and they feed us a kickback. You didn't get your check?

Once I was on a walk and I passed the house my therapist lived in. Her car was in the driveway. A gold Saab, with that one license plate frame. I walked faster.

Lady, I can't imagine how bad it would suck to be recognized by a patient on the intart00bz. If that were not the case, I would spin this instance as Anon evangelizing our services to a likely customer. Can you imagine it: "I have a client who needs to name his cat but is paralyzed by fear of failure and problems with his cat name access query... no meds kthkbye hope me hivemind...."

Why is it that every time I see the word therapist, I now mentally parse it as the-rapist?

Umm, for those of you who have context deficiency, the therapist did not unilaterally recommend AskMe to the patient. Most likely anon was printing out past threads to show the therapist, who smiled in the how-nice-you're-helping-yourself-through-the-internets kind of way.

ScamTherapistFilter: I can't get my therapist to shut up. He keeps discussing AskMe and MetaTalk threads, saying how much he would like to have img tag back and, more recently, dissecting every little comment dios makes. The worst is, he bills me for those hours!!!

You think I should change therapists?

Eh, not whole lot of going off, since ikkyu2's advice is pretty much in line with the rest and he seems to be reacting more to the bluntness and 'presumptiveness' of it (in a "you don't know me!" way).

And since he's quasi-admitted to not being able to read social signals all that well, the whole 'great trial' thing probably soured him from the start.

Must be tough advice to hear, overall; between ikkyu2's "Stop taking yourself so seriously" and markovich's "Nobody DOES like obese people, and you know it, so deal with it", I'm surprised he bothered to come back at all. I'd sit in the corner and sulk for days.

Instead of the two-week stint, each AskMe question should cost a dollar to ask. Best answer(s) get reimbursed accordingly.

Yes, but the person who made this comment isn't our doctor and wasn't talking about our situation, so I'm afraid we can't use this advice for ourselves....

That jokes predates Colbert at least as far as Benny Hill, probably farther.

(still a good one, though)

The first version I heard involved a buggy auto-hyphenate routine. You can make anything painfully geeky if you try.
