Is This Something I'd Need A Mixtape To Understand?

Title -- Show -- Artist/Composer

1 Main Theme -- Lost -- Michael Giacchino
2 Woke Up This Morning -- The Sopranos -- La Peste
3 Superman -- Scrubs -- Lazlo Bane
4 Cornholing -- Arrested Development -- The Cast
5 Six Feet Under Theme -- Six Feet Under -- Thomas Newman
6 We Used To Be Friends -- Veronica Mars -- The Dandy Warhols
7 California -- The OC -- Phantom Planet
8 Bad Reputation -- Freaks and Geeks -- Joan Jett
9 Stand -- Get A Life -- R.E.M.
10 Who Are You -- C.S.I. -- The Who
11 Harassment -- Arrested Development -- The Cast
12 Corona -- Jackass -- Minutemen
13 C'Mon C'Mon -- Rescue Me -- The Von Bondies
14 Boss Of Me -- Malcolm in the Middle -- They Might Be Giants
15 Mayonegg -- Arrested Development -- The Cast
16 The Tra La La Song -- The Banana Splits Adventure Hour -- Liz Phair
17 Macaroni Salad -- Arrested Development -- The Cast
18 Aqua Teen Hunger Force Theme -- Aqua Teen Hunger Force -- Schoolly D
19 Five O'Clock World -- The Drew Carey Show -- The Vogues
20 Falling -- Twin Peaks -- Julee Cruise

So, obviously, these songs are all theme songs to TV shows (with a few dialog snippets from “Arrested Development” thrown in). I chose the songs based on their merit as a song, though, not based on the show they represent. I know they are not the most obscure songs, nor are they the greatest songs in the history of music, but I went with the theme.

MetaFilter: [insert lyric here]

Hello - Anticon
Mr. Edison's Electric Chair - Ronny Elliott
No More LSD for Me - Larry Norman
Thanks for All The Aids - Akira The Don
Fuck Shit Up - Dub Narcotic
Kill Everyone - Alva
Playboy Japan (1971) - Yummy Fur
Cocaine Blues - Keith Richards
Cocksucker Blues - David Vandervelde
El Presidente - Drugstore
Death Threats - Throbbing Gristle
Sex (on My Trampoline) - MC Copulation
Reverend Black Grape - Black Grape
Too Much Sex (Too Little Jesus) - Drive-By Truckers
Diddle My Skittle - Peaches
Suicide is Painless - Lady & Bird
Death to Everyone - Bonnie "Prince" Billy

The original idea was to make a mix that would mirror the flow of a generic MetaFilter thread, but it quickly degenerated into a mix with as many offensive songs as I could put on without them being misogynic or homophobic (which cut out all the songs in the hey-gay-guy-I'm-not-gay-so-don't-touch-me-huh-yeah-so-buzz-off-huh-hey-I've-got-my-penis-inside-your-butt-how-do-you-like-that-huh-yeah-I'm-the-biggest-man-that-ever-manned-yeah genre such as DMX's Where the Hood At). Unfortunately, there were many great greatly offensive songs that I had to leave off because they just didn't fit onto the mix.
posted by Kattullus at 5:22 PM on April 30, 2007

Oh and... the name MetaFilter: [insert lyric here] came about because while listening to the mix I'd keep making that joke in my head and since I was making a mix for mefites, I figured I could just run with it. Examples include MetaFilter: Evil on the mic like Margaret Thatcher, MetaFilter: You do nothing but socialise and become a menace, MetaFilter: It makes hosing much more fun, MetaFilter: I didn't mean to hurt that kid, I just wanted to show him a little fun & MetaFilter: Where can I get my cock sucked?

Dang, my copy of the "Please Enjoy" mix arrived damaged too; I was only able to hear the first 4 tracks before what looked like water damage caused an inordinate amount of skipping. Thanks, mystery mixer! Um, can I get another copy? or does someone have the MP3's lying about?

I'd cut and paste my tracklist from my swapset, but I already made a web page with it: "A casual malice you can apply with the usual finesse." The mix was originally going to be ultra-menacing, but the flow was nasty so I scrapped that and settled for something more....adventuresome.
