Mefi reference on Wired (sort of) May 30, 2007 9:48 AM   Subscribe

Lore Sjöberg has a column/blog/whatever on Wired's website. In the most recent edition/post, he expresses a desire to "replace [the caps lock key] with a more useful key, like Reload MetaFilter Obsessively." Full thing here.

I think you mean "Metafilter's Own Lore Sjöberg".

BUT WITHOUT MY CAPS LOCK KEY, HOW WILL PEOPLE KNOW THAT I REALLY REALLY REALLY CARE ABOUT WHAT I'M WRITING????!!???!?

This guy again? It's like astroturfing without the effort. Not that I have anything against Lore. Hi, Lore!

Hi, Plutor!

I kinda felt bad about leaving Metafilter out of the Dot Combos column, so I threw in a shout-out. Also, that would probably be the most worn-out key on my keyboard.

Or, now that I think of it, if it really does reload MetaFilter obsessively, I'd only need to hit it once every time I booted the computer. So it would be one of the least used keys on the keyboard, but it would save wear-and-tear on my bookmarks menu.

Hey, did anybody see that Ask A Ninja thing?

Tip: The F5 key already reloads Metafilter obsessively.

It does on my machine, that is.

sbmIKE, YOU WILL NEED TO HOLD DOWN THE shift KEY. bESIDES, STUDIES SHOW IT IS EASIER TO READ mIxEd CaSe.

Ugh. Now I'm off to eat some chicken nuggets.

'Metafilter's own - L. Fitzgerald Sjoberg' who?
Posing behind some lame vagabond pseudonym. I don't think so.

Everybody loves Lore. If he recorded a few songs, he might become as popular as cortex.
posted by Faint of Butt at 10:45 AM on May 30, 2007

You don't want Lore recording any songs. They'd go on longer than Mathowie's Community Blog.
posted by jacquilynne at 11:00 AM on May 30, 2007

Lore, you still in SF? I'd love to shake your hand and say hello. Email is in profile.

Also, I saw the MeFi shoutout yesterday and it made me grin.

Capslock? Screw that, SysReq.

Christ, that Closer to Fine flash thing is brilliant. Stop stealing my ideas in reverse, Sjoberg.

Just a few more Bjork songs...
posted by graventy at 11:18 AM on May 30, 2007

Oooh, I want a Roomba Mouse! My only suggestion is that it has a hose attachment so it can also get at the crumbs in the keyboard.

Cortex, that bit is older than *I* am.

Yesterday I was telling my husband about the pantsfish so I showed him the pic. He asked what the fish was saying, and what it meant, so I dug up the thread which I had forgotten turned into happy cyborg name-generating silliness.

Who invented the cyborg name generator?
That's right...
Lore.

Cortex, that bit is older than *I* am.

The "college roomie's fuck up songs a lot" bit, or the "this will actually literally go on forever because it's randomly playing segments of the song punctuated by 'oops' moments in an infinite loop" bit?

I'll give you the former, but the latter is what I really like.

Now that I think about it, Greg Nog, I believe I ended up here via the Lungfish as well.

I've been noticing that Lore has been a lot more active on Mefi lately. This makes me very happy.

I had no idea so many names rhymned with Bjork.

Lore, can you make a brief recording of yourself saying "Hello, my name is Lore Sjöberg, and I pronoung Lore Sjöberg `Lore Sjöberg`"? I would really appreciate it.

Why DON'T they have mousepad-sized trackpads though?

I've been digging Lore's shit since the Shuttlecock days. Hey asavage, how about getting a Book of Ratings series on Discovery?

I agree with cortex, that indigo girls thing is hysterical.
posted by shmegegge at 2:15 PM on May 30, 2007

Hey boo_radley, Lore pronounces his full name in the beginning of The Björk Song recording linked above. It sounds pretty much like Show-berg.
posted by Partial Law at 2:18 PM on May 30, 2007

As I have said before, I love and worship Lore in a totally satirical ironic way, but I wondered about the absence of MeFi in the "Dot Combos" column, so I came up with some of my own, and also developed a real-web version of "Figg" (he self-linked).
posted by wendell at 2:20 PM on May 30, 2007

I also noticed recently that he had been more active, but was also pleased that no one else had really noticed. You know, so not every other mefi shoutout would call attention to him *cough*asavage*cough*. Some of us like our secrets. ;)
posted by artifarce at 3:22 PM on May 30, 2007

I also checked out brunching again, and checked out The Legion of Doom ep of Ratings. Lore, that is seriously one hell of a nu-metal goatee you're rocking. I want you to know that. Also you're totally right about Bizarro.
posted by boo_radley at 3:37 PM on May 30, 2007

I used to work for a Scandinavian company which exposed to me lots of Swedish and Norwegian names. So the first time I saw Lore's name I just read it as 'Show-berg,' and I'm glad to see I wasn't wrong.

Lore Sjöberg hosts my buddy's now defunct webcomic Death to the Extremist, for which I'll always be grateful. Thanks Lore!
posted by Kattullus at 4:51 PM on May 30, 2007

Aw, thanks cortex, et al.

I wasn't going to announce this for a couple days, but those of you who liked Brunching might want to keep an eye on Bad Gods. It's on hiatus at the moment, but it should be less hiatusy any day now.

Thanks for the plug opportunity!

When I used a ball mouse, the dirt of course formed little gaskets of filth on the rollers that needed to be extracted with revolting regularity

Lore, you really shouldn't tell the world that you have dirty mouse balls. Some things are better left unsaid.

Doesn't everybody here have dirty mouse balls?

Doesn't?

Every?

Body?

Huh?
