Yet another London meet-up June 6, 2007 5:41 AM   Subscribe

London meet-ups, eh? There sure are a lot of them about at the moment, but on the off-chance that any of you are not already suffering from 'meet-up fatigue', there's yet another one planned for Monday, June 11. It's a result of this AskMe thread, and is your chance to welcome lackutrol to these shores. The venue will be the excellent Jerusalem Tavern, from around 5.30-6.00 onwards.

I'll be there.

To Whom It May Concern,

I see you there, reading this and contemplating making a Metatalk post about how many London meetups there have been lately, and how it's all over the front page, and why don't we Get Our Own Fucking Social Networking Site. Well, don't do it. Here's why:

First of all, we're already in Metatalk, so you can't drag us there. Second, you're just jealous. Third, it's not our fault that as residents of London, we're culturally obligated to be drunk most of the time, and to do that drinking with the sort of fine folk who frequent this here website.

So bear with us while we enjoy our fleeting summer. It will all be over soon enough.

Cool, I'll be there!

I wonder if we can cover the entire front page of MetaTalk with London meetups.

I will be there. I will actually be there, because miraculously, I'm not somewhere else for once. Holy god.

I tried to get in to the Jerusalem on Thursday night and it was 8 deep on the pavement outside - was that just an off-chance work do I stumbled on or is it always that crazy?

It's the (sole) St. Peter's Brewery pub as well, so you've got a gorgeous range of pints.

Of course, it's a weekday, I can't come. Bollocks.

Good planning, I'm in the area that evening, so I'll pop my head in for a couple of pints.

(last decent train leaves for Cambridge leaves at 23.15; my bollocks may be premature, not for the first time)

Lacksy! Can you pick me up a jar of Bovril while you're there?

I think there are medications available for this now.

I can't not go, I work 5 mins away.

Boo! These meetups always seem to be scheduled around the times I am in London! And I am in London A LOT.

By "around" I mean "just before" or "just after". Of course.

If I came I wouldn't be able to drool over shiny new Apple product the moment it's announced. What a dilemma.

mds, I'll see what I can do. It looks like I'll be over there several times over the next few months, so if not this time perhaps another. Thanks to MrMustard for taking the initiative to put this together. Cheers!

Always like that when it's not raining. Thursdays are particularly bad though - seems to be the lawyers' main night out around clerkenwell for some reason.

I should be able to attend! Yah!
May have to leave slightly early as am giving a workshop in Maidstone on Tuesday at 8am and then rushing to Worthing to do the same thing again at 3.15pm. Thank God I'm in love with my car!

The good thing about this meetup is that the Jerusalem Tavern is incredibly easy to get to from my office. The bad thing about it is that I will not be in my office late Monday afternoon.

I'll see what I can do.

I will probably arrive early and leave early (about 6.15) -- I have to disappear to introduce two tourists to real London pubs and restaurants as opposed to Garfunkel's... so I may not see anyone/everyone.

So, not knowing any Londen Mefi'ers, how will I recognize anyone? I'll be wearing a yellow polo shirt, and probably smell since my luggage flew to Poland while I went to England...

To aid recognition, there is a fairly comprehensive gallery of the usual suspects over at Flickr. flashboy might even bring the sign.

That's boring, though. For more fun, just approach groups of people, and ask them if they know Matt Haughey.

I'll be getting there late, 8:30ish.

sebas, I'll be there from 5.30ish sporting horrendous sunburn of the neck. You really can't miss me.

See you folks there.

Fuck. I forgot to bring the sign.
posted by flashboy at 9:33 AM on June 11, 2007

I do still have the sign. Honest.

I will at the very least put up a picture of the lesser MeFi sign, covered in beer and ash toward the end of the evening. But it'll have to wait till Thursday or Friday as I forgot the cable for my camera.
