rss on tagged ask query fails if empty set. July 9, 2007 4:44 AM   Subscribe

The rss feed for "ask metafilter" tagged empty sets returns an error. (For Example.) I wanted to add a bunch of esoteric tag links to google reader that would allow me to answer those questions that I consider myself an expert in. This works fine in those situations where questions currently exist for the specified tag, but not so good when nobody has asked a question about that subject before.

MetaFilter Bug: you are unprepared for the scope of my genius.

but, actually, smart thinking, sir. This would be handy.

Well I think you've pitched this far too reasonably. If last week has taught us anything it's that all Metatalk requests should be considerably more snarky than this.

It's only because you're a fellow Manc that I'm not flaming out on your behalf.

Tsk!

seanyboy is a Manc? I thought he was a Yorkshireman.

Oh, and this is a pretty smart idea if I don't mind my own say so. Anything to help me to regulate my totally out of control Ask Me rss folder would be much appreciated.

He is? Shit. Then he's going to be mighty pissed off when he checks on this thread then.

Use Yahoo Pipes to subscribe to the feed of all AskMe questions, and then filter on what keywords you'd like. This will also be easier to update and maintain then managing individual feed subscriprions.

Also, if the keyword is in the text and not just tagged, you'll get it to. And it's easier on Matt too, he won't have to implement catchall web pages for non-existant tags, which sounds like a messy thing to do.

I made a sample one here, you can 'clone' it and adjust the keywords to taste: Sample AskMeFilter.

I'll fix this today.

Well, that was easy.

...unfortunately there's no easy fix for being a Yorkshireman.
