Yet Another Chicago MeFi Meetup Option (& HostingCon) July 17, 2007 7:59 AM   Subscribe

Okay - it looks like there's mixed reception for the 27th in Chicago and I won't be there anyway. Are there any MeFites going to HostingCon that would like to connect there - or alternatively anyone down for grabbing a beer on Sunday July 22? Flexible to locations that are public transit friendly. Northside or Downtownish preferred.

I do not know what HostingCon is, but I'm in for meeting up on the 22nd.

Sigh ... I'm out of town on the 22nd as well. :(

22nd is a no-go for me as well. I will be out of town!

22nd works for me. 27th doesn't.

Oh man, I've been looking out for a Chicago meeting, haven't been to one yet. I'll be out of town though, guess I'll catch you next time around.

I wrote this Askme a few weeks ago and I've been meaning to ask about a meetup ever since. Your initiative works just as well for me, though! I'm in the Loop and have a terrifically bad sense of direction. Do with that what you will. I'm willing to walk or CTA to come, though, if anyone has any fabulous ideas.

Andersonville!

I'm out of town the 22nd, but in town the 27th. Andersonville is not convenient for out of towners staying in the Loop!

We had some talk at metachat of meeting at Mother Hubbards 730ish this Thursday, the 19th) but I don't know if that's still one

Good god. RBS sure loves Andersonville but it's not always convenient for the rest of us!

crush-onastick, can you post back here if the Mother Hubbard's meetup is still on? Thanks.

Who wouldn't love the best neighborhood in Chicago?

27th--Rock Bottom Brewery (see lower thread).
22nd is just for, you know, elitist Andersonville people.

(Just kidding)

Cool - sounds like there's enough folks to warrant this. I'm cool with Andersonville, but it sounds like it might not be optimal for others. I'm not too familiar with the bars downtown - anyone?

YES.

folks visiting could go see Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind before (or after?). it's not so long a trip via cta especially if you have hilarious yet moving experimental theater to look forward to.

what's hopleaf like on a sunday?

i've been thinking Piece in wicker park would be fun to have a meetup at as well.

(also, if anyone wants to say hi, i'll be at the big free decemberists show @ millenium tomorrow probably towards the front of the lawn with the filthiest white sox cap you've ever seen)

22nd should work for me. : )

Ohhh, I like the notion of Piece.

I sorta half-live in Andersonville (moving completely back to the 'burbs after August), so that is cool for me.

I have no clue where Andersonville is! If I can get there from the Loop without transferring a bunch of times on the CTA (I really hate transferring. Especially bus transfers) then that's cool. I can definitely get to Wicker Park easily on the CTA.

Hopleaf's not terrible on a Sunday. Also, there's always Simons. Too much light is just around the corner, for people who didn't pick that up from pokermonk's post. To get to A'ville, you can take the red line and walk half a mile or just take the 22 (Clark).

Incidentally, the Neo Futuristsdirections are the best directions for getting up there.

Not that I'm trying to hard sell Andersonville (I'm up for anywhere, really), but that there's cheap, good theater right there means you could make a day of it if you really wanted to come.

I don't want to be bratty but I probably won't go if it's in Andersonville. I have a busy weekend set up and it'd be one thing to be able to go out downtown (a few minutes away from my place) but to go 40+ minutes away (by p-trans) isn't going to work for me. I'm not sure how the out-of-towners will feel about going far either...but I don't know who's coming in from out-of-town.

If we're thinking about the downtown area, may I suggest O'Leary's Public House at Wells and Illinois. We can sit outside if the weather's nice, or stake out the seating area across from the bar. It is open on Sunday (a problem we encountered with the last meetup planned at Monk's on a weekend...).

Alternatively, Fado has much better seating and a lot more distractions should we need them. That's at Clark and Grand. They probably have a better beer selection, too, but I don't think their food is as good as O'Leary's.

Clearly I am an Irish pub snob. And a whiny brat.

MeetMegan: We are going forward with the Metachat meet at Mother Hubbard's (5 W Hubbard) tonight at 730ish.

crush-onastick: Excellent. I will try my best to be there. Thanks!

I really like the idea of downtown.

I've never been to either O'Leary's or Fado, but if I had to pick one of them I'd say Fado.

Shall we call it?

Shit, secret metachat meetup tonight? Man, I'm gonna be stuck at home trying to come up with a song about a goddamn snake. Is there even gonna be a meetup on the 22nd now?
posted by buriednexttoyou at 3:36 PM on July 19, 2007

Dude. I hope there's still a meetup! Is there any reason why we can't have an ultra cool meetup sidebar so I don't have to page back to check the status?
posted by theantikitty at 9:44 PM on July 19, 2007

Anyone still out there?

Uptown Poetry Slam 21st Anniversary is Sunday too, so that might be fun to meet up at (and shave off a little cta time, although bad for driving). Bonus points for mefites who perform!

Otherwise, we should lock down on Fado or Piece or Hopleaf.

But it's gotta be someone more decisive than me to do that.
posted by pokermonk at 4:27 PM on July 20, 2007

Hmmm... no location, no sidebar... I'm making other plans. Sorry, guys, I'll try the 27th.
