I'd just like to say something nice about grumblebee.
After reading his answers to my askmefi question, I took some time to read through his posts, and seeing as the Grey has been so full of nasty callouts lately, I thought I'd recognize someone who's both helped me, and been really entertaining.

I'll say something nice about grumblebee too. We once had an oddly heated exchange over email (which stemmed from a flip comment that I'd made in a thread) that turned into a really interesting discussion about the role of narrative in people's personal lives. He's definitely a good egg, and his comments are pretty much unfailingly thoughtful and thought-provoking. (And anyone who can be so unabashedly open about how much he loves his wife just gets me right in the heart, anyway.)

thanks!!!
Honestly, I hope I DO provide something useful/entertaining on occasion. Metafilter and the whole MeFi community has been a source of great utility and information (and work-procrastination fodder) to me over the years. It's my first destination on the web. I try to "give back."
I also know that, as jessamyn put it, I "think differently" from many others here (which is not-the-same-as better and, I hope, not the-same-as worse). Different can sometimes be useful, but I'm sure it can also be annoying. So thanks for putting up with me!

AZ, one of my favourite Billy Connolly skits is the one where he goes on about how, when an animal perceives the presence of another animal, the first thing on its mind is "Can it eat me? Can I eat it? Can I shag it?". Which of course leads to the logical next step, "Can I shag it while eating it?"
I've never been able to track this routine down on YT, sadly.

Yes, sometimes I go into questions on AskMeta (on either a Mac or PC), and the font is very small. I was flagging it, until I figured it was probably just a problem with my computer.

Sometimes I even manage to keep up the exasperation for several seconds before I realize that I'm just insanely jealous of the guy's brain.
What's the matter with being average?
Trapped! Your questioning of the status quo (which assumes that being above average is always better than being average) marks you as an above average person. J'accuse!

If it's about me, I'm flattered, I guess. I'm straight, but I'd rather a guy fuck me than eat me. If it's about a font, I recommend Sabon. I find it subtle without being pretentious. It goes will with a nice Riesling and maybe some onion soup.

When I first started reading MeFi (and especially AskMe), Grumblebee was the first poster here whose AskMe comments I could identify before his user name scrolled into view. His answers tend to be compassionate but clear, painstakingly detailed, with a rational, balanced tone.
He was one of the first users to whom I linked; I wanted to see what else he'd written that I hadn't yet seen, because intelligent and ruminative discourse is a pleasure no matter what topic it's covering.
And I second what scody says about his obvious and endearing adoration of his wife.

Grumblebee (and languagehat) inspired me to sign up for metafilter. I'd been lurking for a while, mostly reading posts back through the years. I didn't know much about the blue or the grey, I was in love with ask.me, and grumblebee quickly became my favorite answerer. He always takes people seriously and doesn't ever mock their questions or their concerns. He takes the time to give thorough answers and I love long posts when they're filled with useful analysis and information. He makes many relationship-threads worth reading. He is an interesting personality. And as I am also a late-bloomer in love (25 and still never been kissed), I find his posts about his wife to be really inspirational. My goal when I signed up was that I would always try to give quality answers like grumblebee, or I wouldn't say anything at all.

So, did you find her, you damn ingrate, or shall I sully your name from here to Boing Boing? I have the power, my man. I can make it so you can't can't get in an AOL chat room without heckling cries driving you out into the cold internet streets. "Grumblebee?" they'll say. "Aye, I 'eard of 'im. I've tried everything except hiring a private investigator. I'm pretty sure I found some family members of that girl, and I emailed them, but they never wrote back. Maybe this is a case of someone who, for whatever reason, doesn't want to be found.
But the whole thing still has an active module somewhere in my brain. If there are updates at any point, I will be sure to post them.
Meanwhile, my first EVER AskMe post is still unsolved.
