Black Book Art Circle Project reredux! July 30, 2007 3:48 PM   Subscribe

9 months ago I mentioned my Black Book Art Circle Project, and sent out a whack of books to MeFites. So far, none have come back. I did move in the meantime, but paid for mail forwarding to my current location, just so there would be no lost art. That service is about to expire. Does anyone know the status of the books they received?

I am very, very, very, very, very embarrassed, ashamed, and apologetic to admit that I have one sitting on my desk as home, and have had it since cortex gave it to me at a meetup a very long time ago.

I'm sorry.

Everyone probably flaked out.

dersins, any chance you could send it back, as is?

Or, even better, update the mailing address in it and include by email address, and give it to someone else? Even without your addition?

I'm not utterly shocked that none have come back, though I really was hoping for at least one book from the 14 I bought and mailed. I hate the idea that I spent all that money and time for nothing (not even enjoyment for other people).

I love when people start projects like this, and I wish more of them would work. If anyone has one of these and wants to pass it my way, I'll fill a few pages and pay to send it on to anyone else who wants a go. I think it's great that people put the time and effort into starting these sort of creative projects - God, I know I'm too lazy to organise one, but I could make the effort to take part. Isn't that the easy part?

If someone sends me one, I'll definitely do my thing and fire it back off posthaste.
posted by sciurus at 4:20 PM on July 30, 2007

Dersins, would you be willing to post it to me? If so email me and I'll give you my address - email in profile.
posted by Elmore at 4:21 PM on July 30, 2007

I have it sitting on my desk, filled with a couple of sheets of sketches for what I'd like to do, but haven't gotten around to tracing and inking yet.

You just wanted one side filled out and then sent, right? I'll go ahead and follow that grand motto, "Done is better than good," tonight.

(To be fair, I moved twice in the interim).

I would lurve to take one off someone's hands. My email is in my profile, I'll send you my address. I'm dying for a project.

I'll go for it too, if you want to pass one on to me (my username at gmail)

kickstart70, email the new address (my username at gmail) and i will update the front cover, add my contribution, and pass it on.

This time, for reals.

Ditto that.

I'll happily take another page in a book other than the one I handed off to dersins. Email in profile etc etc.

Better to post here so anyone can update their copy:

BBACP c/o Greg Webster
543D Reid st.
Quesnel BC
V2J 2M8
Canada

bbacp(*at*)gadgeteer.net

I should have no problem receiving mail at that address for the next 1.5 years.

Thanks!

I received mine six or so months ago, and passed it on to a friend... I'll try to chase it up for you.

I want one! I want one!
posted by aubilenon at 5:41 PM on July 30, 2007

I mean, to do stuff in and then pass along, of course.

I am shocked and astonished that artists of all people could flake out. What's this world (wide web) coming to?

I would absolutely love to take part in this and promise to return any book post-haste. My email is in my profile!

Oh shit, now musicians are going to start flaking out too after seeing the artists doing it :-(

Go community.

I thought people were supposed to pass them on to a friend until the book was full and then it would be sent back? So wouldn't it take 60 reliable people to get one returned?
posted by smackfu at 8:44 PM on July 30, 2007

I'm most definitely interested in this. phirephoenixATgmailDOTcom for address? It's summer for me now so I'll actually have freetime on my hands, and I'll be sending it on for sure.

I'd also enjoy the opportunity to flake out on this... uh, I mean draw pretty pictures and forward it on promptly. Email in profile.

I'd love to participate, too.

I finished mine and mailed it off months ago. I can't remember who to, right now, without checking old posts and emails.

I vaguely remember requesting one but I think they ran out before they got to me!

If you handed out fourteen notebooks and got zero back, there's something wrong with the project (at least in its execution) or you're asking too soon.
posted by pracowity at 2:31 AM on July 31, 2007

Agree with pracowity - I've done a project like this before, and nagging reminding people to keep the ball rolling is an essential part of the model.

Well, I'm a musician and an artist, so clearly they cancel each other out and somebody should send me a book. Email in profile.

I hope someone will send me one.

Another embarrassed party here... I actually finished my drawing and then didn't follow through passing it along.

The good news is I just agreed to send it to hermitosis - and I promise, I'll get it in the mail by this weekend. So there is at least one you know where it is and where it is headed.

I hope you'll give this more time, Kickstart70. I know we all suck and do not deserve nice things, but I think with a little cajoling interesting stuff will get back to you by and by.

It looks like this thread is dropping off the radar... if anyone is still looking for a book or for someone to send one to, feel free to email me through my profile and I will play matchmaker as penance for my poor communitude.

I signed up for the project and never heard from anyone - I am still interested in participating. Emails in my profile, thanks.
