Back in April, I made an in-depth post to the blue about OpenAI's DALL-E 2, an unbelievable new AI system that can generate hi-res artistic or photorealistic images of anything you can describe in just a few seconds. Now, after more than two months of waiting (and a comedy of errors), I've gained rare access to this amazing technology... and I'm passing the savings along to you! Post a text prompt you'd like DALL-E to generate in this thread, and I'll share the results! (Examples, conditions, and tips inside.) [more inside]
Let's all wish a very happy and hopefully stress-free b-day to outgoing veteran mod, inveterate punster, and all-around mensch, MeFi's own cortex "Josh" Millard. [more inside]
You guys BLEW MY MIND with the Weird Science theme from last week; this week, I want you to BLOW MY MIND AGAIN with your super-sweet art! Tag it #sweetart and let me revel in your super-cool and super-sweet art! [more inside]
Happy weekend, MetaFilter! This week, I'd love it if you'd share with me a link or two to some of your favorite visual art. Famous, obscure, amateur -- just something you love to look at, and why you love it. [more inside]
Happy weekend, metafilter! This week, I'd love to see some art or craft projects or home renovations or redecorations or anything like that, anything that you've been making that's beautiful or cool or efficient or well-organized that we can all admire for its talent and beauty! [more inside]
Prompted by a fun poster thread on MLTSHP, I want to know about a thing that is on your wall. Could be a poster, a painting, a picture, a wall-hanging, a shadow, a window, a post-it, something you like to look at that you think others might like to see. Feel free to describe it or link us to a picture of it.
I'm finding art is a really useful thing for putting my brain somewhere other than *waves hands around floridly* for a while. And I know a lot of folks on MetaFilter make art, or have made art, or would like to make art. So, hey: let's make some art! Good art, bad art, first-timer art. Let's make stuff, and talk about stuff you'd like to make, and share what you're making, and share resources and guides and inspiration and so on. [more inside]
End of another week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. In light of the recent Notre-Dame de Paris fire, I thought it might be nice to have a thread where we can discuss other beautiful monuments/historical places from around the globe. Share with us places that you've visited in the past or would like to visit if given the opportunity. If you have old travel photos and feel comfortable sharing, all the better. As always, be kind to yourself and others. Cheers.
End of another week, let's talk about something else that is not related to politics. I want to hear about some "thing" that you've experienced over and over and over again. Maybe it's a book you keep re-reading, or a movie you've seen 100+ times, or a video game you play constantly, or an album or song you have on repeat. What piece of media are you constantly re-enaging with? Some thing that feels like the back of your hand, that you are familiar and comfortable with, that you know all the way through. Some thing you keep on coming back to because you just love it so much. As always, be kind to yourself and others. Cheers.
There was an AskMe a few months ago asking about (I think) contemporary religious art, and someone suggested this monk who makes Greek Orthodox icon-style art. It was awesome and I want some! Anybody remember the post? Thanks!
Do you draw and/or not draw? Great, time to draw some stuff! (Or sketch, or paint, or whatever the hell your jam is or you would like your jam to be.) That's right, it's Inktober, and I reckon we should congregate in this thread with our various stuff-you're-drawin' feeds and such. [more inside]
The last year-plus has been a tumultuous time in the world. As announced last week, we're changing the norms of the USPolitics megathreads, and that includes less space for parody songs and similar stuff. Instead, folks can put that stuff here. Have you made some art, music, etc. (silly or serious), inspired by current events (from anywhere in the world, not just the US)? Show us!
I've joined many web communities in my life, but none for as long or as wholeheartedly as MetaFilter. I've learned a lot, grown as a person, and taken direction from the thousands of smart, funny, and caring people who write here. And I've been inspired to write, too, putting more time and effort into researching worthwhile posts than I have at any other creative hobby. Sadly, what with work and the news chaos and competing interests it feels like there's less and less time to focus lately, and seeing linkrot erode what I do post is a drag. So when showbiz_liz's lovely celebration of ten years on the blue made me realize my own 10th Mefiversary was approaching, I was moved to do something about it. Nothing on the web lasts forever, but armed with old notes files, the Wayback Machine, and a drive to rediscover my own personal Best of the Web, I plowed through all 149 posts (and a few comments) to recover lost links, check on what had happened since, and organize it all into a single FPP omnibus for your reading pleasure. A few weeks ago I put a call out for members of the defacto mefite team for the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen. GISHWHES wrapped up about a week ago. Here, for your viewing pleasure, are the 2017 submissions of Team StrangeFascination. [more inside]
It's that time of year again, where people submit themselves to the unhinged whims of a celebrity puppetmaster in the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen (5-11 August 2017). Mefite-heavy team StrangeFascination (previously, previouslier) have 5 open spots - would any Mefites like to join us for zany art timez? [more inside]
In which a community website moderator and artist of some repute cleans up a stencil -based work and OH GOD THIS IS SO SATISFYING. Recent works by the same artist include fractal images, cubes, and more peeling.
Show us your art! I'm feeling the need for some beauty and some MeFite sharing, so let's see (and/or read about) your favorite object of beauty in your living space (art, tchotchke, design element, whatever) ... whatever it is that's beautiful in your space and brings you happiness from looking at it. Show us your #1, show us your top 5, I just want to see what beautiful things bring you all happiness in your homes!
This article was previously posted to Metafilter, I believe within the last year. It was a long story about a man who worked as a fine art shipper who moved up in the ranks to become an art dealer. [more inside]
I'm not sure what if any is the best way to put out a general call for help with a project on MeFi. (Not to announce a completed project like in the Projects subsite, but to ask for help with one.) Has there ever been any thought/discussion given to the idea of creating a new subsite where MeFites can request help with things like art or writing projects from other MeFites? It could even be broader than that--call it "Hope Me, MeFi!" or something--and just make it a place where community members can seek out other members for help with whatever they might be doing.
Another year, another bunch of people doing zany art nonsense because their celebrity puppet master demands it. The Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen just wrapped up for 2015, and the (unofficial) Metafilter Team StrangeFascination (plus our new friends Minion Mayhem), featuring Lou Stuells, divka, kjs4, usonian and His thoughts were red thoughts did pretty good. See this year's submissions here. [more inside]
Hi all. I remember seeing a post on AskMe about a parent trying to assess their child's artistic ability based on a link they provided with drawings that showed what is standard for each age group. I've searched google and through the Arts questions with no luck. Ring any bells?
Hi, the FAQ says ask here. I somehow failed to favorite or save off an artist featured in a Mefi post within the past 8 months. She's an illustrator for a newspaper in the desert states, like maybe Arizona or vicinity. Her work is ink and washes? Or ink and watercolor? Her work features bound female figures bleeding from arrows. Bunnies and birds flying about. Pain of love. Thanks!
Have you discovered any artists / writers / musicians / insert-artform-here, via Metafilter who are bone fide 'Mefi's Own', that you are now big fans of? [more inside]

Does anyone remember a post (from the past year or so, I think) about some digital art that was made by taking (pixel-wide?) slices of video and sort of "painting" with it? [more inside]
Looking for an old post: a big, big site with models in a gajillion different poses, meant to serve as reference models for practicing figure drawing.

I know there are artists, hobbyists, and crafters among the Mefi members. Are any swapping ATCs? [more inside]
Meta Filter, [1973-75] is an interactive console, two participants sit on either side and look at a series of neutral images of people, people as individuals or people in relationship to others on the small screen in front of them. [more inside]
I posted this question about 2 ½ years ago and I wanted to give a followup and say “thanks”. [more inside]
This might be a longshot, but are there any mefites that would be interested in an unofficial oekaki drawing board, or some other kind of drawing/art/Muro/doodle/paintchat board/community? [more inside]

Lute Cat (not to be confused with Zither Cat) began life as a deletion reason on the blue, was briefly batted about on the grey, was then auctioned off for charity, and is now residing in Projects, ready to be purchased and taken home. Oh won't you love him, Mefi.
This post is Pepsi-Blue. divabat isn't even trying to hide the fact. Smarties Australia paired 8 kids up with 8 artists to create art based on each Smarties colour ... getting the product name in twice in the lead sentence. [more inside]
Who are the comics-making MeFites? I am aware of Greg Nog, interrobang, XQUZYPHYR, and The Whelk... who else?
In this thread about Antony Gormley's One and Other art project in Trafalgar Square this summer, Mr Mustard said that he would post to Mefi from the plinth if picked. As I'm appearing on there tomorrow (Mon 21st) I feel honour-bound to do just that. Possible mini-meetup... [more inside]
Hey guys, remember way back in 2005 when I had that AIM bot that let you talk to random people on the net? It melted down frequently due to some restrictions of the AIM network, and I lost interest in it. Apparently, the community didn't because people have MeMailed me about it since. I talked about doing a AJAX version, but never got around to it. So I thought you might like to hear that someone else did. [more inside]
My Askmefi question only recieved one answer...I realize that this must just happen every so often, but I'm wondering, a) how I might avoid it, and, b) can I ask the same question again in the hopes of getting more answers? [more inside]
How is the question of Jeff Koons' validity as an artist, called into question by his departure from his financial worker past, anything other than chatfilter?
Any other Washington, DC area Mefites taking part in this year's Artomatic? It's May 9 to June 15. I'd like to see your work and maybe meet. Registration is still open (800 artists so far). You should at least go and see it even if you're not taking part. [more inside]
9 months ago I mentioned my Black Book Art Circle Project, and sent out a whack of books to MeFites. So far, none have come back. I did move in the meantime, but paid for mail forwarding to my current location, just so there would be no lost art. That service is about to expire. Does anyone know the status of the books they received?
Mefite group art project: passing around disposable cameras.
I'm a bit obsessive about my album art, but I never had anything for the songs I've snatched from MeFi Music (chococat, I'm looking in your direction). So I whipped up a little something that I thought I'd share with the community. It's nothing special, but perhaps it will help fill out your Cover Flow.
