Most of these other "ask" services just show the typical floodgate of crap you get when the site is popular, anyone can post, and there's no moderation. posted by Tuwa at 7:04 PM on August 30, 2007
It seems a lot like the Lifehacker "Ask MetaFilter roundups" they publish every few days. They post excerpts of funny and/or interesting ones and link to Ask MeFi so I can't complain. It's not like they repost the whole thing and ask for answers on their own site. posted by mathowie at 7:11 PM on August 30, 2007 [1 favorite]
B'stan: if I fast MeFi, then I'm gonna have to compensate by adopting a strict all-day diet of whisky & bacon. It's either one or the other, I'm afraid. posted by UbuRoivas at 7:15 PM on August 30, 2007
Matt, I only mention the DMCA because the answers on that place are such utter shit. It's 20x worse than yahoo. posted by IronLizard at 7:30 PM on August 30, 2007

I have sleeves, thank you very much... I cut them off because, y'know, I been working out a little and they were starting to chafe my biceps, but I still have them in an old milk crate, for, like, dusting and stuff. Yeah. Dusting.
And stuff.
Random thought: Aren't these people violating the respective copyrights on our sparkling bon mots?
Not so random thought: Fuck, are those responses ever lame. I realize there's probably a lot of overlap between MeFi and Gawker, but shit, those people are like YouTube commenters but with better spelling and forced eastern seaboard accents. posted by Alvy Ampersand at 8:22 PM on August 30, 2007
How totally non-threatening and older brotherly are the Metafilter male responses though?
She, a total retard, just jumped, and they were all there, ready to catch her, no judgments, thoughtful advice at the ready.
I thought the 'ask him back for beer and a blowjob' wasn't far from accurate. Going to work most of the time, anyway. posted by pompomtom at 8:31 PM on August 30, 2007

Conversely, Ubu:
Foreigners and Experts go in
And through my place
Turn my home into a museum
Like the murder squad
They scan the room
For the well of inspiration
They don't tolerate ordinary folk
and folk look at me strange
But I'll give them this at least:
They pay for what they eat
Visitors and peripherers never give
I just want room to live posted by Burhanistan at 8:43 PM on August 30, 2007

That almost calls for an Annual Snark Invitational, for charity.
I suggest that we hold the first one here. I've already set up a cloak room, so they can collect their asses quickly & easily on the way out. posted by UbuRoivas at 10:06 PM on August 30, 2007

Weirdly enough, there's actual people that live on the eastern seaboard. A lot of them!
It just sounds like to me they're not taking the internet very seriously. It's healthy. posted by blacklite at 12:53 PM on August 31, 2007
Ubu, I'm thinking that it would go better if we just handed them their asses rather than going through all the cloakroom-storage bother. posted by Kwine at 2:15 PM on August 31, 2007

Kwine - that was the whole point. You've obviously never planned the logistics behind mass ass-handing, have you?
Either that, or you were the one behind the great Dog Ball, where the fire broke out & in the panic they made a rush for their checked-in tails. To this day, they have to sniff each others' butts to try & find who made off with their tail, and no way do I intend to go around sniffing Gawker butt. Or MeFi butt, for that matter.
