Gawker Advice tries its hand at RelationshipFilter

Most of these other "ask" services just show the typical floodgate of crap you get when the site is popular, anyone can post, and there's no moderation.

Time for a DMCA takedown note. Just for kicks.

I see that. And he's getting crap answers.

that guy is just reposting AskMe questions.

That guy? That guy?!

It's Choire, our own beloved RJ Reynolds.

It seems a lot like the Lifehacker "Ask MetaFilter roundups" they publish every few days. They post excerpts of funny and/or interesting ones and link to Ask MeFi so I can't complain. It's not like they repost the whole thing and ask for answers on their own site.

B'stan: if I fast MeFi, then I'm gonna have to compensate by adopting a strict all-day diet of whisky & bacon. It's either one or the other, I'm afraid.

Matt, I only mention the DMCA because the answers on that place are such utter shit. It's 20x worse than yahoo.

And I wasn't really serious.

Unlike HowU.info.

I'll bet the AskMe asker is actually a fat hairy guy in a potato-chip crumb encrusted sleeveless t-shirt.

Whiskey and bacon is what killt Huckleberry Finn's dad.

No, jonmc, I didn't ask that question.

I have sleeves, thank you very much... I cut them off because, y'know, I been working out a little and they were starting to chafe my biceps, but I still have them in an old milk crate, for, like, dusting and stuff. Yeah. Dusting.
And stuff.

Random thought: Aren't these people violating the respective copyrights on our sparkling bon mots?

Not so random thought: Fuck, are those responses ever lame. I realize there's probably a lot of overlap between MeFi and Gawker, but shit, those people are like YouTube commenters but with better spelling and forced eastern seaboard accents.

How totally non-threatening and older brotherly are the Metafilter male responses though?

She, a total retard, just jumped, and they were all there, ready to catch her, no judgments, thoughtful advice at the ready.

I'm both charmed and totally suspicious.

Heh.

I thought the 'ask him back for beer and a blowjob' wasn't far from accurate. Going to work most of the time, anyway.

the soap opera writer
would follow him around

Gawker is the only site I can think of that could possibly out-snark MeFi users.

I've never been so glad that mefi comments aren't preceded by a profile image and poster name.

Gawker is the only site I can think of that could possibly out-snark MeFi users.

That almost calls for an Annual Snark Invitational, for charity.

I suggest that we hold the first one here. I've already set up a cloak room, so they can collect their asses quickly & easily on the way out.

B'stan: I know exactly how you feel. It's a daily grind.
posted by UbuRoivas at 10:08 PM on August 30, 2007

Matt: Also, I (like I guess many others) discovered AskMe via those Lifehacker postings, so it's also good for business!

You know how I know Seth Rogen's gay?

He's Gawker's Ask-a-Faggot.

Weirdly enough, there's actual people that live on the eastern seaboard. A lot of them!

It just sounds like to me they're not taking the internet very seriously. It's healthy.

Ubu, I'm thinking that it would go better if we just handed them their asses rather than going through all the cloakroom-storage bother.

Yeah, she's just lucky she her username wasn't CatDeclawer.

Kwine - that was the whole point. You've obviously never planned the logistics behind mass ass-handing, have you?

Either that, or you were the one behind the great Dog Ball, where the fire broke out & in the panic they made a rush for their checked-in tails. To this day, they have to sniff each others' butts to try & find who made off with their tail, and no way do I intend to go around sniffing Gawker butt. Or MeFi butt, for that matter.

(with a possible exception for miss lynnster)

Anyone notice that CollegeCallGirl is in the thread too? Weird. Maybe she'll find out that we don't believe her.
