SF meetup? September 29, 2007 10:01 AM Subscribe
Anyone up for a San Francisco or East Bay meet-up?
Yes, it's only been a couple of months, but due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to make the last couple, so I'm calling my own! Any takers?

But no talking that way. Or is that the point?

Just an idea, there are plenty of alternatives, Pacific Brew Co, Quinn's Lighthouse, Pyramid Brew, The Pub on Solano... or the city:
Rogue Alehouse, 21st Amendment, Hi Dive, etc etc.
I was just at the speakeasy last night so it's sort of fresh in my mind.

Sure. Triple Rock in Berkeley is another option, if we're looking at brewpubs.
Also, Endgame is right across the street from Pacific Coast Brewery, if we wanted to have some sort of drinking/game playing night.

I naturally gravitate to the brewpubs but am open for anything really.

I'm new in town - I'd love to get to know one of the area's better brewpubs (and the local mefites).

Rkent, I am extremely fond of the 21st amendment on 2nd street and the Rogue Alehouse on Union. Really thought the options are pretty much open in terms of beer and great food in the city. If I didn't have to work tonight I'd be at one of the above :(
And since you're new in town, for some of the spiciest and best chinese food (hey an alternate meet up location?) try Brandy Ho's or the Henry's hunan locations on Natoma or Sansome.
Which brings up some other possibilities for a meetup location:
Brandy Ho's
Henry's over on Samsome
Chow over in the castro
Home over in the castro
One of the dozen places in the mission ?
If the general feeling is east bay centric we can hit up any place on Solano in Berkeley or head to one of the Zachary's locations for some of the best pizza in california.

I'm down for a meetup. I vote for anything with good beer. I prefer in the city proper, or somewhere near a BART station.

I'd be interested. Definitely lean toward East Bay, but beer is good anywhere. BART is helpful, though I can bike.
Zachary's seems like a bad idea for more than six people/staggered arrivals... Beckett's might be good (been craving Magner's lately) they have a room for biggish groups IIRC; Luka's has awesome burgers, fries, and a great selection of Belgian ales; Pacific Coast is fine by me, though their service can suck (I think it's better for groups); and I am always down for freezing my ass off at Zeitgeist.

You fuckers, please don't make me leave The City.
It's just that... I get nervous when I leave. Like it's going to disappear when I turn my back on it, or I'm going to miss something awesome, or that I'm going to regret not spending every second that I can here before the quakes and the oceans swallow it up before I'm done with it.
Besides, we have better burritos.

East Bay! I'd love to go wherever it's happening. Just one suggestion, if we end up meeting at a very crowded social place such as Triple Rock, can we do something to alert people that show up that we're the Metafilter group (maybe a sign, or somebody in an obnoxious shirt, whatever)? Last time that there was a meetup at Triple Rock, I showed up and there were literally 20+ groups of 5 or more people scattered about. It almost felt like some screwed up hazing ritual where I was supposed to repeatedly walk up to these gatherings and go "are you guys from...ah, nevermind." And the wait staff started to think I was crazy.

That's cool.
We have pambasos. No one over here bothers with burritos when they can eat the equivalent of a spicy, deep-fried sloppy joe made with shredded beef, sold to you by a man standing in front of a small cache of weapons.
I love it here. But I'll drink in the City. Even if there are no hot custard filled churros.

Yeah, I think you're wrong about the burritos, though maybe not if you're limiting yourself to Berkeley.
I have a hard time suggesting SF-ans leave SF. I know how much stress it causes them.

I can't do it at all (leave the City, that is). The thought of it makes me cry.
But if you decide to do a meetup in town, I'm there! (Unless I'm not there, which means depending on when and where it is/would be if it weren't in the East Bay.)
Hope that's clear.

I would definitely be up for Triple Rock but anywhere is OK. I have been so insanely busy with work (God, the thought of what will go down on Monday kills me already) that it would be nice to have a moment to hang out with people who don't have any interest in what I am doing. Think about meeting at Picante in Berkeley, it's close to the Gilman Street exit from 880 and has good burritos and every flavor of Jarritos.

Someplace in SF that's easily BART-able that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. If such a place exists.

I'm down in LA through the middle of October to shoot a wedding (if we're talking weekends, I won't be available until the weekend of the 19-21st or so). That's an awful long time to wait -- I'll catch the next meetup.
Have fun, everyone!

Me and this other Yay area MeFite wouldn't be able to make it on the 8th. And y'all SFers can suck it; we come in to your gorram city all the frakkin' time, put up with early BART nights, get our bike wheels stuck in your little train tracks or take cabs because you live up the biggest hill in existence. The least you can do is get on the effin' train.

Friday the 8th of err, what month ? Friday is the 5th, the 8th is a monday if we're talking about October.
I'm leaning towards east bay, Pacific Coast is a large enough place to accommodate a varied number of people and it's walkable/stumbleable to BART, but I'll show up wherever we have it.

right. I was thinking 8th of September, since that's the calendar page that's still up.
Okay, how about Beckett's in Berkeley, then? The food sucks and it's expensive considering the suckage, but it does have good whiskey.
How do people feel about weeknights?
Too bad, dashiv. But I kind of figured that we'd be too small potatos for you these days anyway- internationally famous and all...

Pacific Coast's house brews are pretty good, and the rest of their selection is damn fine as well. Plus, it's all kinds of big.
How many people show up to these things out here? Is Ben & Nick's too small?
