I tried to embed a midi December 12, 2001 7:27 PM Subscribe
I tried to embed a midi of "Celebrate (good times)" to topple a thread at 99 posts. It was there in the preview screen but absent after posting. This is a bug.
I'd just slink away and pretend it never happened, if i were you.

not a bug. you can't use the embed tag for anything good, so you can't use it here at metafilter.

Matt makes sense. It would slow everything down, inconvenience those who were trying to read at work or school, and while 99 commments makes good celebration, perhaps just entering the lyrics would be more appropraite.

I wonder how many other near-tragedies have been avoided by Haughey's forethought.

Is this a recent change though? I swear there was some thread a few months ago with an embedded midi or wav in it.

yes! :)
no style tag and no sneaky 'javascript:' (hmmm, maybe that wont show up) allowed
any chance that preview can follow the same rules as posting? that would fix holloways 'bug' at least

Or how about a quick rundown of what tags and attributes are filtered/allowed (the lesser of the two lists)?
On a completely off-topic note, I thought I read somewhere that MeTa threads don't get deleted.

I'll have to look, but pretty much anything besides embed, script, or link is allowed. You would almost never have any legitimate reason to use those few tags, and they're the favorite tool of people wanting to hack things, so they're out, and have been since I implemented Leonard's tag closer thing (search metatalk for that to see the old threads on it).

the poster asked for it, and I obliged.

I asked Matt to delete that thread because it was a total mistake. In regard to zuzu's post in the Bin Laden videotape thread, I meant to call her (or him) out for the inappopriate and completely off-topic request to post a link for him (or her). I did not properly check the link before I posted it, and it ended up looking like I was berating the original poster of the entire thread because he posted a .pdf file. I have since apologized to that poster, and Shadowkeeper and I have been having a good conversation over email (which is how I found out about this thread).
Shadowkeeper advised me, and I agreed with him, not to repost, because then it might look like I was going against Matt's will or something. I think everybody in that thread knows that zuzu's request was inappropriate now, and zuzu has not since replied, so no blood no foul. There's the long explanation. Thanks again, Matt, and thanks to Shadowkeeper too.
