Recent Activity: more, better, longer! November 6, 2007 5:31 PM   Subscribe

A few little functionality improvements with Recent Activity and some favorites action.

Just so you know, pb tweaked the query a bit on Recent Activity to keep AskMe threads in your RC list until they close. This means people can post updates in thread and other people who have commented will still see them even months later. Other things drop off the RA list after a month. We also added a favorite from RA option and you can see the best answer checkmarks in the RA view as well. Report weirdnesses here.

Report weirdnesses here.

I got a rash, but I'm enjoying it.

I can't stop having sex with bee-hives. It's... troubling.

Great change! I noticed old threads percolating to the top today - those Australian election campaigns are long..

I think more tweaking will eventually be necessary, because ten threads isn't very many over a month (or year) of activity. If I had a really good idea for how to manage that, I would suggest it, so..

Anyway, still very much appreciated!

Oh ya.. Colour coded backgrounds :)

i have a strong urge to bite my boss. i did it, a while ago, but she was holding a smoking hot pan at the time, and didn't see me coming. someone suprising you with a strong bite on the shoulder can apparently be very disturbing.

it was very hard to explain why i felt the need to bite her.

oh, and also nice work.

Oh yeah, Jessamyn, did you mean a user
s Recent Activity as opposed to Recent Comments tab?

Oh yeah sorry, I never use recent comments. I'll edit the post so it's not totally confusing.

I've been fighting the urge to favorite myself for hours. Should I see a therapist?

This is not confusing at all.

There was a laundramat in St. Louis that had a sign up that said, simply :

NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ACCIDENTS

And it made me think about all the skiing mishaps and bus plunges and failed trapeese acts that weren't the fault of the Delmar Laundramat.

Good on them for telling us.

Could we add "comrade" as relationship type for contacts? I'd like to build a popular front here. Then we could split into hostile factions.

Rhomboid, you total tease. I clicked on those links and thought I got "favoritted"! Sigh.

(from the horse's mouth)

Straight from the mare's mouth, maybe, but ponies aren't horses.

How long 'till you foal next, pb?

1) I wasn't saying anything about ponies at all. I call them feature requests.

2) Here's the first sentence from your wikipedia link: A pony is a small horse with a specific conformation and temperament.

Ya, well I'll see your wikipedia quote, and raise you one link title:

Go ahead, hover..

Yippee, thank you! And it was only few days ago that I emailed you asking if Recent Activity could display favorites and best answer checkmarks. As I noted then, now I'll be able to bask in self-satisfaction much more easily -- and I didn't even have to risk the terrifying hazards of a pony-requesting meTa thread.

Hey tehloki and daisyace, it's MY pony! But you can ride it too.

and Thanks!

I don't know if it has been mentioned or requested elsewhere, but the new sidebar of contact's activity is GREAT, and it would be even greater if it could be an RSS feed. I imagine that might be a difficult computation, especially with the particular filtering options and everyone having a different list of contacts, but it would be amazing none the less.

Not sure if it's been mentioned here or elsewhere, but the "Recent Activity" page appears to display "____ added you as a contact" twice for each time that type of activity occurs. Is this affecting other people as well?
posted by myrrh at 3:59 PM on November 8, 2007

It's a bug that only affects those perverse enough to take up the recent fad of self-contacting, myrrh.
