Greater Seattle Dive Bar Christmas Potluck Benefit Concert Meet Up Concept December 9, 2007 10:30 PM   Subscribe

As described here, and photodocumented here, the Eastlake Zoo was the locale for one of the more successful meetups to which I have organized. Let it be noted, then, that this next Sunday, December 16th, the Eastlake Zoo is having their umpteenth annual Christmas potluck benefit for Northwest Harvest. And there will be live music this year, including, among others, some entity called the Guitar Outlaw Christmas Chorale, Keith Low and Seattle's own maven of lap style slide guitar, Orville Johnson. May I suggest, then, another meet up at the Eastlake Zoo ?

The cover charge for the evening is $8 or $5 with donation of non-perishable food item.

Regarding the music, while I don't know much about the rest of the line up, I can say that when it comes to lap style slide guitar, that Orville Johnson is hell on wheels. He sounds marvelous.

And as for the food, it's a potluck as in homemade and deli platters--hearty cuisine for which YMMV but the one thing is certain: the portions will be ample. We're talking gnosh pit. Bring a can of food for Northwest Harvest and gnosh guilt free.

The music starts around 8 and I believe the food will be getting set out about an hour earlier. Hope to see you there.

I would be up for a meetup. I apparently missed the last one by a day.

I am in favor of as many Seattle meetups as possible, since I seem to always have some sort of conflict. Or the flu. Or a conflicting flu.

I've been looking for a meet up since I missed the last one! How do we meet once we get there? Do we have some kind of secret handshake or a gang color or...

I hear there is something involving a blood letting.

And a mongoose.

But that may have just been imagined from my nyquil binge last night.

I will be wearing a black t-shirt with an amusing slogan on it. And then there is the giant head of Homer.,,

This sounds like fun. Don't be surprised to see me, too.

The 16th? Drats... I'll be in Vegas Dec 16-18, so I'm gonna miss this one too. I'm with hattifattener: the more the better.

Slarty's the one with the cool haircut. He knows stuff about microbes, too. Just start asking random Zoo patrons about e-coli 0157:H7; Slarty will emerge sooner or later...

Just go up to the bar and tell 'em Karl told you to pick up a free pitcher.

Yeah, well, we saw how well that worked the last time.

I've been going to every bar in Seattle attempting this trick. So far, I've received free pitchers at the Pacific Inn, the Comet, Canterbury, and Hooters. Exactly what kind of barfly are you Karl?

(/just joshing. Everyone here should know that the only thing I've ever seen y2karl hopped up on is root beer.)

Slarty what is going to happen with two adams characters in the same bar?

Probably lots of drinking actually...

Holy shit, if Zaphod shows up the world may end in an implosion of geekdom. Probably seconds before someone figures out the question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Yikety Yike Yike Yikes! Be advised--upon consultation with Howard, I find that the potluck starts at 6:00 PM and the music starts at 7:00. Again, food at six, music at seven. The cover is $8 or $5 with donation of non-perishable food item to Northwest Harvest. I know that I will be there by sometime in between those hours. Fear the Walken.

Ak! I wont be able to make it this time around guys, I am running short on time to get ready for traveling for two weeks.

Well, and now it's wet out as well.. but nevertheless I am going down to show the flag, as it were. Just look for Chester J Lampwick. Not that, given the Eastlake Zoo's demographics, that description exactly narrows if down. At any rate, the music ought to be first rate and the food good and portions ample. Fun for all, free beer or not.

I was maube kinda wrong about the music, I suppose. The Guitar Outlaws part, anyway--that particular Xmas tradition is a learned taste I had yet to learn. As for the Orville Johnson set, I faded fast last night. I was too pooped to pop.

However, the food was great and the portions ample, let it be noted.

As for appearances, well, for the record, Tube showed up with his girlfriend Dana and Slarty Bartfast made an appearance later on with two of his friends.

I just want to say that you all missed out on a fantastic weekend in Whistler. Check the thread for pictures, fools.
