Brooklyn/NYC Mefi Meet December 25, 2001 9:38 PM   Subscribe

On the heels of this thread, I would bid January 24th, 25th, and my preference, 27th, for a Brooklyn/NYC Mefi Meet. Blah Blah remains my preference: it's fairly quiet on Sunday night--and around the corner from ME. D I S C U S S.

Oh, good. This idea hasn't gone missing. PP: Does the Blah Blah serve food (and is it any good) or are you proposing we meet after dinner? Pick a night and we'll try for it.

I live in Queens, just found out about this, I guess if the place is near a subway station it shouldn't be a problem.

If someone can propose a fairly quiet place in Manhattan, I'm amenable--but I don't know of any (that was the real premise of choosing Blah Blah; it's two short blocks from the F Train/7th Ave., which is a block from Prospect Park.

I'll join you all only if you promise that Paul Ford will be there so he can sign my web browser, er monitor, er...
;)

There are a lot of great places in the city to meet. Let me think up some good places that are near subway stops.

Well, the 24th and 25th are Thursday and Friday and nothing in Manhattan will be quiet. But on Sunday the 27th, these might be nice places to meet downtown:

First choice: The Otheroom, in the West Village, is wine-and-beer-only but in my experience nice and quiet (and people bring dogs!). It's near the 1, 9, A, C, and E.

The subterranean Chinatown bar Double Happiness is near the Spring Street stop on the 6 train.

The bar at The Screening Room is usually pretty quiet — and we could move to the balcony if either the bar crowd or our crowd grew large. It's across Canal from the 1 & 9 and a block from the C & E.

I was just at an impromptu party at the new trendy meat-packing district bar Rhone and had a really good time — this bar also has a little balcony area we might retreat to.

Wow, damn, this is still going on... :) Well, I'd be up for the city on a weeknight -- only reason is 'cause I'm commuting from beautiful Lon Guyland. :P (I work in Manhattan, thus the weeknight dealie.)

Given that some commute on weeknight, and other non-NYC would like to come to this thing too -- how about a Friday night?

And in a relatively quiet place, so we can actually meet each other.

Ha! Well, usually, we have a cogent exchange of thoughtfully-made points until one of the local trolls polarizes the conversation; then we have a raging flame war until it moves to MetaTalk.

Or did you mean here in New York City? In the geographical "here", we usually just yell at each other until a cop Maces us.

Anyway, I think for present purposes we just pick a date and place here in MetaTalk and beg Matt to put an invite in the front-page sidebar for hoi 13,000 polloi.

jennak — The problem is finding somewhere in New York that's convenient to all and quiet on a Friday night.

The Screening Room has been pretty quiet even on weekends since September, and the balcony is a good spot for an open get-together — and the appetizers and desserts are great. Any objections?

Out-of towners welcome? I'm going to be in NYC on the 24 and 25. Business during the day (pfui), but my nights are relatively free.

Double Happiness is a good bar, but it's too noisy for a MeFi get-together. We are all about talking, are we not?

Paris, in the past, the way these gatherings ended up happening is that the promoter of the event simple named a place and time and anyone who could make it, did. It's far, far easier that way.

Yes, Paris. Just choose a place & date and we'll be fine with it. You just better choose Friday night, though. ;)

(So the Washington, DC webloggers could come up for MeFi Nite too.)

Now I feel guilty about choosing Blah Blah lounge in Park Slope (which is, by the way, less that 20 minutes from the LIRR terminal at Flatbush Ave, for the Long Islander out there...)

OK. I'm going to elect Thursday night the 24th. Again, for those who might venture from Manhattan or beyond, the joint is near the 7th Ave. Stop of the "F" train; about 23 minutes beyond Broadway-Lafayette: think of it as an adventure. E-mail me, if you like....let's say 8pm? This feels weird....
