Matt, Jess, and Cortex - would you all consider doing a live call-in show? Apparently it's really easy to do now.
The call-in format seems to work really well for the podcast, and I'd like to see what would happen if we took it live.

I kind of like how the internet lets you do things asynchronously. It'd be tough to line up a time that all three of us could be ready to go at once, then on top of that members of the site could only call during that designated time.
Also, I don't really see what this gives us that the edited, recorded version lacks, aside from spontaneous jokery.

They are too busy avoiding implementing email@metafilter.com to spend any time avoiding a call-in show.

I actually stole that line from a David Cross bit from a few years ago, but I am informed now, late just this afternoon, that a "cooter" (which I had always come to think of as a turtle) is also slang for female genitalia. So, in the midst of the many fights over sexism we've been having on the blue and the gray lately, for whatever it's worth (and it might be worth very little), I need to declare that it was certainly not my intention to add fuel to the fire. So, I apologize for this thoughtless and careless use of the word "cooter".
Still, though... I'd eat it.

I've mentioned this before, but a million years ago, I worked as Associate Producer/Phone Screener/Sidekick for a Morning Radio Show. I got the job because I had been a regular caller for months, was also doing College radio and was willing to work for minimum wage, in semi-violation of AFTRA union rules. At the time, it was my Dream Job, but it was where I first lost my mind. I don't recommend it to anyone I like.
And speaking of questionable radio names, I worked for a Radio Personality who called himself "Sweet Dick" back in the 1970s... rather daring at the time. You could say he was the grandfather of shock jocks since he made prank phone calls, staged 'un-marriage' ceremonies for couples who wanted to live in sin and did a live on-air invasion of Catalina Island... Don Imus stole a lot of his schtick back then (which was a different schtick than he's doing now), and Reagan stole the idea for the Invasion of Granada. (If you want to hear what he did, get the DVD of Speilberg's "Duel"... he's the voice on the radio for a few minutes doing a prank call to the Census and interviewing a guy who makes music with meat).
But seriously, take my advice, don't do a live podcast and NEVER take live calls from people like me.

Has there been like a contest going on for the WORST feature request of the month? Because there has been no shortage of questionable suggestions in MeTa lately. And, as solopsist CLEARLY shows, the only good idea pending is the one for allowing editing of comments for a few moments after you post them.

I couldn't hear any of the callers on the one call in show I tried to listen to. On a really great stero cranked up I'm sure I would have been able to, but in the car using the iPhone through the car stereo I could barely hear the hosts. This works okay for other podcasts, like TAL and Fresh Air. Can you guys pump up the volume? Especially for callers.
