How do I hide my boxcutter? February 22, 2008 11:22 PM   Subscribe

looking for an affordable single-stack pistol suitable for concealed carry. . .

Are askme threads about obtaining concealable weapons really so ok? I realize that, thanks to the NRA, walking about with a hidden gun is now legal in all but a very few states (including my own) here in the US; however policy-wise I'm still not convinced that threads about obtaining easy to conceal lethal weapons--of any kind--are an especially great idea.

Your protest shall not thwart the divinely sanctioned second amendment rights of the AskMe poster. You have been duly reported to the NRA.

You know, if you were planning on such a hyperbolic title, you could have at least titled half your threads "How do I protect my family?" to balance it out.

Crikey Moses, that question, and all that it implies, is absolutely terrifying.

Can't see that it breaks any AskMe guidelines, though.

I wanted to do five identical 'banhammers' in tribute, but ironically, the comments are protected against double posts!

Of all the concealed carry related Meta posts today, this one sucks the most.

Allow me...
Metafilter: Hiding the boxcutter.

What else can we get in here before the official MeFi alarm system is tripped and the emergency sirens start to wail in mathowie towers, hauling our illustrious leader from his peaceful slumber?

Someone start working on the image tag, I'll get to work on the blink. There's a lightening storm coming, if Salmonberry takes this arial up on the roof we might just be able to resurrect them before dawn breaks over Oregon...

"As more and more terrorists start holding Metafilter to ransom, or start blowing up the place to draw attention to their cause, the old fashioned banhammer is about as useless as the traditional English bobby on the beat, armed only with a truncheon.

mathowie, you need to make some investments in newer technology in order to deal with this threat which has escalated significantly over the last year, and our intelligence sources suggest that it will inevitably continue to increase.

Fortunately, here at Haliburton Internet Technologies, we have just the thing for Metafilter and mathowie.

For many years now, Slashdot has been plagued by terrorists of this nature, smuggling in a 'first post' under their burkha, or driving in with a bunch of terrorists from the GNAA. The old fashioned banhammer just doesn't begin to cut it as moderators are rapidly overwhelmed by the threat and innocent, law abiding netizens are terrorized by these lunatics.

However, all of this can easily be prevented if mathowie replaces the traditional banhammer with an Ingram 10 mm fully-automatic, blowback-operated, selective-fire machine ban. Commonly referred to as the Ingram BAN 10, this tool is capable of banning between 900 and 1000 accounts a minute. Or alternatively, you can just turn it on a single asshole and rapidly reduce him to sausage meat.

Now you might think ban power like that will take some serious resources. You're going to need at least a dedicated server, with a full time sys admin to run it. Probably in some obscure variant of Unix, with Oracle database skills to maintain the huge database of banned IP's. Not so. All of this ban power is small enough to carry around on a small thumb drive. It'll fit in your pocket, or in a ladies purse, ready to be pulled out and used whenever you sense a threat.

So, these little babies are very inexpensive, made from proven technology and they're fairly simple so are easy for moderators to maintain. The last thing you want to see is jessamyn being subjected to a heap of personal abuse and comments about sweater puppies, only to find that the banhammer is gone, and the new BAN 10 doesn't work. Fortunately, that'll never happen. It's sophisticated enough to be used by anti-terrorist squads all over the globe, and simple enough to be used by a gang troller who didn't even graduate high school.

So, can I put your name down for three? One for each of the mods? We can take care of the paperwork when we're done at the whore house?"

Yes, but can the Ingram BAN 10 be easily concealed in casual clothing?
