RPGs in Tucson March 4, 2008 6:36 PM   Subscribe

So, JaredSeth's wish to play Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay from the Gygax obit thread inspired me to post this, so I'll ask...does anyone in Tucson want to join a gaming group?

I know it's not quite a meetup, and there will be other non-Metafilter readers there, (so I hope it's not entierly innappropiate,) but I figured it can't hurt to ask, and see if there are some people here who might be interested. Lurkers can email me at tucsonrpg@gmail.com

Dorks! I would totally do this if I still lived in Tucson.

I relish Games Workshop nuttiness. It's usualy crazy, British, unbalanced, and still somehow works. Unfortunately, I don't live out there, either.

You know, from this AskMe I asked some time ago, I found some pretty great stuff to get games going online. (I went with TeamSpeak and FG2) There's no reason we all need to be local to play games anymore, what with us living IN THE FUTURE and all.

Agreed. I would be totally down for some online thuggery.

Snyder, somehow I knew you'd beat me here. I was considering a MeTa where the pen and paper gamers (or former ones like myself considering a return to RPGing) could post location and availability.

And the non-gamers would have one central place for all their "NERDS!" needs.

I'd be interested- its been a looooong long time, but I'd like to play pen/paper games with others in the Bay area.

How about a MeFi PBEM if you can't get a local thing going?

Count me in to an online game. That would be awesome.

Yes! Online PBEM. I would be in, depending on the system. I'd actually love to play a narrative-heavy kind of game like Dogs In The Vineyard or Primetime Adventures with a bunch of MeFites.

(Alternatively, I run a tabletop group in Raleigh, NC, if anyone in the area's interested.)

I would be interested, either a Seattle in-person game or online as long as it is synchronous (not play-by-email or play-by-post).

Dogs in the Vineyard would be awesome. Though the "religious" element might throw some.

I used to just love playing the Chaosium Call of Cthulu rpg while at school and uni. Great game. If anyone in London fancies a trip down memory lane, it might be fun. But I'd have to retrieve the rules from the WPW National Archive (my parents' attic in Dorset).

I haven't really thought to much about playing online, and am not as prepared for running ones as I am for tabletop, but I wouldn't mind playing online, but I just created a google group, mefirpg , for people to join and facilitate setting up or joining a local group, or setting up an one for online play.

I just joined your group, Snyder. If there's any more interest beyond khaibit, I'd be willing to play in/run a Dogs In The Vineyard game.

If anybody wants into an alternate Sundays 3.5 game in ATL let me know. We could work something out.

(If anyone is reading this who lives in New Orleans and is interested in German-style board games instead of Warhammer, drop me a line...I have people over every couple of weeks. Also, why are you reading this thread? It's about Warhammer players in Arizona.)

I would love to do some Call of Cthulhu, WPW, or straight up D&D. Actually, I think a MeFi Paranoia group would be a blast.

Never done pbem. I'm having trouble imagining it being that much fun but I'd be willing to give it a whirl. What we really need are speaker-phones. Bosley can DM.

My friends and I, now scattered to the winds, have had a decent amount of success with Skype and Open RPG

Synchronous is hard as hell to GM/DM though. I've tried it, and some yahoo is always trying to run off and do his own thing...

PBEM can be *great* if everyone is a decent writer, and makes time to actually play and post daily. It's slower paced, but it really approaches that 'collaborative novel' level if everyone is in to it. I haven't had a good PBEM in 5 years, so I'm very eager to give it a go once again.

Email is in my profile, so whoever is running something just let me know!

Joined the group, Snyder. If enough RPG-minded MeFites sign up, maybe the mods would be willing to add a link to it to the wiki?

Any member can edit the wiki, JaredSeth. Go sign up. It's good form to use whatever handle you've chosen for MetaFilter.

Ok, count me in for pbem, too. Email is in profile.

OK, so khaibit and Snyder have both indicated an interest in playing Dogs. One or two more and I think we'd have a solid game--anyone else?
