Favorites... from the past! March 19, 2008 6:32 AM   Subscribe

Being vain, of course, I noticed this morning that someone favorited my song. The details show two favorites, though, one of which is from 2006. Which I am fairly certain is not the case, unless somebody's got a sweet time machine.

And if you do have a sweet time machine, please share. Thanks.

But even if they had a time machine, how could they go back in time to favorite a song that you had yet to create?

So, maybe you have a time machine?

Why would anyone share their time machine? That's how you lose control of a time machine and then disaster ensues. Pffft. Amateurs

I wouldn't share my time machine. You're absolutely right, typewriter. Once the genie is out of the bottle, it's only a matter of time before we all suddenly have a third eyeball or something.

Not that I have a time machine, because I obviously don't.

I think it's clear that this so-called Orange Goblin is actually Jean-Claude Van Damme.

I vote for Guy Pearce.

I traveled forward in time and spent a lovely afternoon with Madame President Clinton.
Chelsea Clinton.
But do you know what parking in DC costs in 2038?
Outrageous!

I can't decide if the title of the song makes this all slightly eponysterical. I mean, what did you expect?
posted by Nabubrush at 7:03 AM on March 19, 2008

Alright miss lynnster, here's a freebie:

That guy Colin? He's gonna seem okay, but ultimately, can you really deal with all the extra toes?

Be careful folks. We all know Voyager turned to shit when they started time traveling every other episode. We don't want that to happen to Mefi, do we?

Miss L---
In a Very Special Episode, Glenn Frey apologizes for being a dick at House of Blues, sends you flowers, and charms the pants offa you.
Literally.
Ironic, huh?

So, Orange Goblin : What happened on September 3, 2006 that made you need to go back?

(And I'm prepared to wait a while for your reply. If I were you, and I had a time machine, I really doubt I'd bother coming to early 2008.)

But Dave, late March 2008 is when the Frajibtamarians from Algyroba-5 finally reveal themselves and bring the Blinar Iso-Palchneens to help all Mankind!
Silly!

Wait.

According to this, Orange Goblin actually marked music comment 1999 as a favorite (and the dates agree), not song 1999. The music subsite thinks that all favorites are for threads, and none are for comments.
posted by Plutor at 8:46 AM on March 19, 2008

Here's another example: on August 25, 2006, ibfrog favorited music comment 1953. But it's displayed under song 1953.

(nice save, plu--- no one must know about the iso-palchneens; thanks to your quick thinking everyone just assumes I'm a lonely, rambling chucklehead in my underpants, sipping diet off-brand chai...)

If you were from the future, Dizzy, you would know better than to drink diet off-brand chai. Ick.
posted by misha at 9:19 AM on March 19, 2008

Yep, Plutor nailed it. We're having some ID-collisions on the page that displays who favorited a thing. On most sites this isn't a problem, but Music is newer and less posted-to, so the comment IDs and post IDs are in the same neighborhood. We'll have to pass in a favorite type to that page in addition to an ID. We've had this on our to-fix list for a while, but it's been at a fairly low priority because the collision rate was low.

And you can tell everybody that this is your song.
It might be quite simple, but now the time-travel's done,
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
that I co-opted this song...

...how wonderful MeTa is, if only I could come up with a clever closing line.

I so love that you do that, carson b. :)

Just as satisfying, when his last cd was being sold at Starbucks, while I was waiting for my coffee I used to automatically -- without even really thinking about it -- move someone else's CD in front of his. It just felt right.

Take that, my crusty rocker dude arch nemesis!!! *shakes fist in air*

He probably donated his girlfriend's kidney. If he donated his own, he would be following you around daily saying, "You just ate a steak, and my kidney wants low protein. DON'T YOU KNOW WHOSE KIDNEY YOU HAVE?!!!??? DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!!!!???"
