Some MeFis in Paris April 15, 2008 2:28 PM Subscribe
Anyone interested in a MeFi meet-up in Paris on Friday, May 2nd or Saturday, May 3rd? I think, other than myself, nasreddin can be forced to participate...

Don't cry. Here's the sunny side: I was going to reply using some dumb joke involving your username, but then I changed my mind.

This could be the excuse to try the new St Pancras Eurostar terminal I've been waiting for.

Well, I'm at a loss what to do that weekend so maybe I'll jump on the TGV and come up. Sounds great.

As far as location goes, I tentatively suggest La Taverne du Nesle, on Rue Dauphine near Pont-Neuf. Unless I'm mistaken, they have €2.50 lager pints during happy hour, which is almost the cheapest beer you'll find in Paris.

Works for me. Is this definite? Shall I book tickets? I'll be getting in mid-afternoon Friday so Fri evening or any time Sat would be fine.

Would it be a problem to wait a day or two to see if anyone has other suggestions, or scheduling issues?

Location sounds good, nasreddin. For the date, ça m'est égal.

I've also just realized I put "MeFi" instead of "MeFite". Late night, wine-induced postings are clearly a bad idea.

Mrs Mutant & myself will probably be in Paris that weekend and could swing by. We'd be staying out in Suresnes Longchamp but in the city proper most of the time.
Hey hopefully whatever place you folks select won't impose too much of a dress code, since I proved earlier this month at a New York meetup, I ain't much of a looker.

That would be awesome, Mutant! The more the merrier. Which day works better for you? Friday evening sounds pretty good to me, at this La Taverne du Nesle (we can all deride nasreddin if it's no good).

Hey nonmerci, Friday works best for us. What time do y'all think this little soiree (that's French, by the way) will kick off?
Time wise we're flexible. I've got one thing to do in Paris in the early afternoon then we're free. We are planning to return to London Saturday late afternoon. Not that I'm suggesting the party run that long, but hey you know.
Curious: how laid back is La Taverne du Nesle? By laid back I really mean lack of dress code, 'cause I'd surely hate to stand outside in the street, watching you folks enjoying a night out through a steamy glass window, if you know what I mean.
On the other hand, I have gone to La Couple without incident several times so maybe things will be ok ...

Friday at 6 or 7 or so would work best for me. (I think happy hour goes until 9:00).
Taverne du Nesle does not have a dress code, and is in general way more relaxed than the address would indicate. I've only been there twice, though, so maybe everything has changed since a month ago.

Ok, Mrs Mutant & I are confirmed, just booked non refundable EuroStar tix; now that's commitment!
If anyone is desirous of English delicacies from London please drop us a MeFi Mail. Fish n'chips probably wouldn't travel well but I'm sure Steak & Kidney Tinned Pudding would still be palatable on the other side (unless confiscated by suspicious & hungry security guards at St. Pancras ... )
See you folks there.

No ideas on my end, Mutant, though I will be bringing up some macarons de Montmorillon (SO much better than Parisian macaroons).
Excited to meet all of you!

I just saw this! This would have been a good excuse for me to jump on the Eurostar (for the first time) as well but that weekend doesn't work at all... Ah well...

Hey guys - Mrs Mutant & I are just about to leave for the Eurostar to Paris, and we (somehow) got the impression this particular pub is large ... any tips on how best to meet up?

Paris recap: six hardy MeFites committed to the MeetUp cause, two pubs and many rounds later, these pix document the event. A quick upload to flickr before Mrs Mutant & I crash out after a long day.
Many thanks for your hospitality this evening! Absolutely wonderful meeting you folks and we'll be back.

For some reason, I've always in my mind imagined Mutant to be that someone that's always in a suit. And by extension, imagined the same for Ms. Mutant. So much for that.

Was a pleasure to meet you all - hard to pick a highlight, but it doesn't get much more Parisian than spending Saturday afternoon lazing in the Place des Vosges discussing French literature and potatoes..!

A fabulous meet-up and total success, even if it was a bit on the small side. Thanks to everyone for participating, and here's hoping we meet again somewhere on our journeys!

tksh -- "For some reason, I've always in my mind imagined Mutant to be that someone that's always in a suit."
But I'm a Mutant! My appearance changes, some say "evolves" to suit the immediate environment. Of course my environment of preference hardly warrants a suit ...
"And by extension, imagined the same for Ms. Mutant."
Ah, her powers are darker and more mysterious than that.

Excellent time all around. Thank you all for showing up and bearing up with my unfortunate SNAFU with the venue.
