Because having your questions answered by *one* know it all is so pre-AskMe. June 30, 2008 9:55 PM   Subscribe

Salon's Cary Tennis referred one of his questioning letter writers to AskMe for a discussion on sighing. So how long is until is it until Dear Abby and Ann Landers just start to tell their readers, "Get counselling, and read AskMe, dear."

How long? Nine years, 8 months and twenty-two days.

March 24, 2018 will be a great day for Metafilter.

Salon's Cary Tennis's reference to AskMe (the text referenced Metafilter, the link went to AskMe) was an addendum to an answer, which also included links to answer.com and about.com. I think online articles linking to other websites is pretty common.

Also, the answer to the Ann Landers part of the question is, when the dead walk. And reply to correspondence.

That thread is in the top 3 results for 'sighing'. Just sayin, AskMe is easy to find these days.

Ann and Abby may refer people to the green, but Miss Manners would never do such a thing.

Doe he look like Bing Crosby in person as well?

Yes he does. He even has calluses on his hands from beating the crap out of his family, just like Bing did!

Too right of her! We MeFites would have no idea what fork to use. Not to mention that I'd back Judith Martin against any one of us in a contest of erudition.

I find the best answers to those "Since You Asked" queries are more often to be found in the comments posted by Salon's readers than in Cary Tennis's responses. When it comes to giving advice, there really is strength in numbers.

I really miss Garrison Keillor's Mr. Blue column. I really tried hard to like his radio program because his advice column was spot on. But, no.

Dear Abby, Dear Abby,
I don't like these links,
Single link newsfilter posts really stink.
The answers in AskMe are no help at all,
Won't you send me a MeMail, won't you give me a call?

Signed, Sad Mefite

Sad Mefite, Sad Mefite, you have no complaint.
You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't.
So listen up buster and listen up good,
Stop whining in MeTa and knocking on wood.

Si-igned, Dear Abby

(Apologies to John Prine)
