Mefi Followup Kevin Everett walks after spinal injury June 30, 2008 9:54 PM Subscribe
Remember Kevin Everett? Well, those of you who said Kevin Everett would walk, it turns out you were right.
Which is awesome.
The wording of the previous MeTa post reminded me of his story and I thought I'd take a second to post this followup.

Oh, you big grumpypants, this isn't some precedent-setting catastrophe, this is a clever one-off that gives us all a little cheer at a time when MeFi and MeTa are full of bile and bitchery. Come on, give us a smile.

Oddly enough, I thought the other post was about NFL wide receiver Joe Horn. Which was weird because didn't remember him being injured.
You and me both.

To make up for that, Shortfellas. Five dwarfs. Five million in diamonds. One heist. A feature film about little men with big ambitions!

Yay. The NFL does something right for a change.
The IV they gave him on the field ("an ice pack for the spine") may have been the difference-maker that allowed him to retain the use of his legs. That the EMTs were trained to deploy the procedure so rapidly shows how far we've come in understanding the treatment of spinal cord injuries in emergency situations.
Hooray Kevin Everett, and hooray to the men and women of the Bills medical staff.
And hooray football.

Remember Kenny Everett? Well, those of you who said Kenny would rock, it turns out that -- oh well, he tried.
(Seriously, that's great news for Kevin Everett. I hope things get even better for him: I was sad to read that he still deals with a lot of pain. Thanks for posting it.)

As I've advised before... just be sure to look down if you're on a dancefloor and you feel a tug on the bottom of your shirt. Dude from Willow might be wanting to boogie. Learn from my youthful social errors, my friends.

This is great news for two reasons.
1. The obvious one.
2. I can now forgive myself for all of the times I laughed at this video. Not that there's anything wrong with the video, but I always felt a little bad.
And MAN do I love being reminded of miss lynster's Warwick Davis story.
