dnab, I don't mean you any ill will, and I've liked reading many of your contributions (when they aren't overly vitriolic), but I think if you continually have these sorts of hostile interactions with other members that obviously vex you, it might be worth examining whether this is a place you want to keep investing your time in. There's no winning or losing here. I find sometimes it's better to just visit the site logged out, click the links and remember that it's a whole wide internet out there. We don't need to all be on the same page about issues here. It's ok to just not get into disagreements at all.

Regardless of the merits of dnab's or termite's assertions (having not read the viacom/youtube thread, I have no opinion), it's really really unbecoming and ugly to see TPS, Styxno, and others cheering for a fight/melt-down/whatever it is they're cheering.

This is supposed to be a community, and you don't cheer on fights within a community. You don't treat unpleasantness, unpleasantness that hurts people, as entertainment. This is not Survivor or American Idol; this is real people getting upset (pt) or getting their feeling hurt (dnab).

Even if it's not a community, cheering on unpleasantness is just as ugly as some slack-jaw cheering on a bar fight, hoping to provoke more and worse unpleasantness. It's ugly, undignified, and it reveals those cheering as small people lacking in empathy and not lacking in mean-spiritedness.

Sometimes I feel that MeTa is a useful part of the community. At other times, I feel that it's the most mean-spirited group therapy session ever convened.

Symbolic interactionalism can be a bitch. We all want, very badly, to develop each other.

Perhaps what we really need is a MeFight Club, where we all get together and physically kick the crap out of each other. I really do think that would be therapeutic, in some cases.

Words mean things. The legal definition is all there is when discussing copyright infringement. Casual use of language is not useful and not desirable when discussing copyright infringement.
