work out your personal issues somewhere else, will you?

this personal drama thing that dirtynumbangelboy has got going needs to stop - this whiny victim playing has utterly wrecked this thread and it's getting ridiculous just.stop.it.

Lord knows we're just trying to help

Why so defensive, sequential? Lord knows we're just trying to help, but you're making it kinda difficult.

Was high school really this complicated?

Was high school really this complicated? It's been so long I can't remember. Officially contains one of my favorite sentences of all time: "Fast-forward to grade 11."

Somebody's cranky.

Somebody's cranky. I tried disciplining him myself, but he's made me take the unprecedented step of dragging him to the principal's office.

There should be a comment limit per thread in MetaTalk.

There should be a comment limit per thread in MetaTalk. There are people who made 50+ comments in the Alex Reynolds thread. That is just wrong. No one should be allowed to make more than a fixed number of comments per MetaTalk thread. I say five. Pile ons are not cathartic releases, mob psychology is not self-policing. This place has gone from Harrison Bergeron meets Lord of the Flies to The Jerry Springer Show meets the Married With Children studio audience. It's a waste of bandwidth, creates nothing but ill feeling and a collective sense of entitlement to say shitty things. We might as well be bearbaiting or throwing cats into bonfires.

A thread on "mob character assassination"

This thread is leaving a bad taste in my mouth for a number of reasons. I don't really like the author of the FPP, and I have some pretty fundamental disagreements with his opinions. However, for the most part, the thread is less about the links than about mob character assassination.

To what degree should a long-standing history of conflict here and the author's identity be permitted to drive discussion?

The return of a member and what happens next

at the emailed advice of a fellow mefier, i need to say something to all of you. no, this isn't a stunt for attention, or yet another thread to stir it with a stick...he tells me that my entry back into mefi has been rude, and he questioned why i did it the way I did. when I told him, he said i should tell the rest of you . more inside...

We are too wrapped up in Kaycee Nicole

Too many threads on one subject at one time ruins Metafilter.

I cannot help but acknowledge how stupid and trivializing it is to get wrapped-up in the (real or fictional) illness of someone through the Web when there are REAL people in distress near where you live (real caring and concern requires more than typing on a keyboard).

My main point is that Metafilter should not be taken over by multiple threads on the same topic, or discussions about threads on one topic: it ruins the place.
