Kansas City Meet Up? August 7, 2008 1:11 PM Subscribe
I recently moved into my very first apartment in the Kansas City/Johnson County area, but I don't know anyone! I'd like to fix that with a meet up.
I know nobody here. The only thing going for me is college, which won't start for a week. There's a group of D&D players that I found through meetup.com, but in the mean time I'd like to make some friends from MeFi.
Since I'm new, I really can't offer any suggestions of where to go. I've been told that grinders in KC is pretty good, but I haven't been there.
As for a time: some time this weekend or next week. I'm not really doing anything other than finding my way, and sitting at home waiting for the Comcast guy to show up.
One thing to keep in mind; I'm a few months shy of my 21st, so I'll make an excellent designated driver!
Other than that, I'm open to almost anything. Brunch, lunch, dinner, whatever.

If a meetup happens in KC and it's NOT next weekend (I'm going to the IA State Fair), let me know. my husband and I are up in Bearcat Land and could come down for something.

I've actually been meaning to go to a KC T-Bones game. The next home stretch is next weekend. We could have a tailgate meetup at one of those.

I would love to meetup with a fellow Bearcat (born in Maryville and NW Alum) but might I suggest the Ethnic Enrichment Fest?

Piedmont, when and what is the Ethnic Enrichment Fest? It sounds right up my alley, because I'm an accomplished (but mostly Caucasian) Thai cook, and my husband is an enthusiastic foodie.
Good to hear from a fellow Bearcat! I didn't go to school at NWMSU, but I wish I did -- I am, however, faculty there. And once a Bearcat, always a Bearcat!

Here is a link. It's the 15th, 16th, and 17th. It's a lot of food, music and dancing from around the world. They've done it every year at Swope Park for a while under a few different names. It's always a good time, and the food is usually superb (often done by various ethnic groups as well as restaurants.)
Why didn't I know you when I was up there? I would have killed for decent Thai! (for that matter I'm having trouble finding good Thai here in KC) At least George and Dino serve up decent Greek at A&G up there.

I'm in kansas city (during summers/breaks). I'm likewise a week short of my 21st. Shoot me a MeMail, I might be able to offer suggestions and stuff. I might be down for a meetup.

There is a big BBQ and Blues festival in Columbia in October. It would be pretty awesome to have a meetup, drink some drinks and eat some good BBQ. There are only 3 Mid-MO mefites so meetups are few and far between (read: NEVER)
Just putting that out there for future perusal and whatnot.

I'm assuming you, me, and lleachie want to go. I'll mefi-mail lleachie. Dismas might be available too. If so then we can pick a day, time, etc. Any day is fine for me, but if I had to choose I'd prefer Saturday.
