Display Title of Post in RSS feed of Popular Comments? August 8, 2008 5:57 AM   Subscribe

I use the "Popular Comments" feed to keep track of all the great things you witty people are always saying. Currently, the title of each comment in the feed is formatted like so:

By orthogonality in MeFi

which does not provide any sort of context for the comment.

Currently I have to mouseover the link and look at the thread's URL to see what the title of the post is so that I know what the heck the comment is talking about. Of course, to understand the full context I have to go read the surrounding comments. But it would be immensely helpful if the title of the post would also display in the title of the RSS feed. This perhaps could replace the "in [subsite]" (which is nice to know, but not nearly so helpful as the actual title of the post would be). Thus is might look like this:

By orthogonality in post "Police raid mayor's house, shoot dogs, recommend land war in Asia."

Also, is there any way to create paragraphs in a post? Apparently carriage returns are ignored and HTML tags are stripped out (but not on preview for some reason). Anyway, this was formatted better on preview.

I've wondered about this in Popular Comments before. I'm Kwine, and I approve this message pony.

I reformatted the post a bit to get your desired whitespace to show and shuttle some of it inside. I'm not sure why the tags were stripped, that's just plain weird, but linebreaks in the [more inside] are respected; we collapse it up above to reduce somewhat the instances of HI I AM TAKING UP THE ENTIRE FRONT PAGE OF METATALK disasters, though it sounds like we need to make sure preview is honoring that correctly.

Preview knows not the meaning of 'honor'.

I think this would be really useful.

I thought I was alone in this.

I, too, am a little frustrated that all of our great comments get attributed only to orthogonality.

OK, I confess finding cortex's comment above baffling.

So any verdict on this from the mods?

Well, Navelgazer, I can't post in every thread.
