I happen to be the obscure expert you need
Perhaps my favorite thing about Ask Metafilter is when someone asks a question that could best be answered by a very particular, obscure kind of expert, and then that exact expert shows up and answers, expertly. Can you post great examples of that here? The more perfectly precise the match between the needed expert and the one who shows up, and the more improbable it is that the right expert would have come along and answered, the better. Purpose of Boxer Fly's
So http://ask.metafilter.com/249451/Wee-want-to-know just got posted and deleted.
It reminded me of this: http://ask.metafilter.com/40759/Why-is-the-opening-at-the-front-of-mens-briefs-still-there-if-its-rarely-used [more inside]
Sometimes the universe is just creepy.
As the previous Secret Quonsar threads have been closed, I thought I'd share the weird coincidence our giftenating hath wrought. (Anyone else have odd MetaFilter connections to share?) [more inside]
Jinx
At first I thought someone had hit "post" twice, but no, it was just that that Fight or Flight and Zoomorphic entered the Metafilter Singularity at 1:01 PM.
Wired on Metafilter
So yesterday there were three separate FPPs linking to this month's Wired magazine. I'm not criticizing the posts (the discussions were interesting, the additional links in one of them were informative, etc.), I just find it odd. Was there any relation between the posts, or was it just random? [more inside]
Am I my Brother's Asker?
How common is it for the unnamed subject of an Ask to show up to clarify their position and/or rebut the Asker? I've seen examples where a celeb shows up to give their view on their actions or work a few times but this is the first time I've seen this particular event on the green.
The horror! The horror!
I have reached 666 favorites on Friday the 13th. Am I going to die?
beep beep, yeah!
I think I saw jessamyn driving a small green car on 84 south of Sturbridge today, or maybe we were still on the pike. Was that you in the little green car, jessamyn? I was the dork in the maroon Pathfinder, wearing my Metafilter T-shirt.
Coincidence?? or "Behold My Power"
a wink and a nod.

bluegrass/scifi combonerd
Neato. ND¢ posts a nifty link to a guy playing the Star Wars theme on the banjo.
This bluegrass/scifi combonerd turns out to be willc, who, bucking the trend of notables who sign up after catching wind of the metabuzz, is a pre existing member (not a very active member, but one with whom I'd be honored, if somewhat unqualified to pick).

AskMe Synchronicity
At last month's CT meetup, nomad observed that from time to time he would see two consecutive AskMe threads that, while not identical, would be similar enough in subject to be notable. Several theories were put forth, but then the tea tree oil toothpicks distracted us from writing a formal paper to submit to an appropriate peer-reviewed journal. He's been spending the last few weeks emailing me whenever he sees these "twin threads" (my term, not his). Here, for your thank-god-it's-not-a-callout enjoyment are the ones he's pointed out to me: How do I get rid of [skin abnormality]: 28255, 28256; What to do in London: 28678, 28679; Bottled water: 29417, 29418. (Related, somehow, to eponysterical posts)
Do you remember the book about coincidences?
I saw something in the blue, sometime in the last 6 months, which was maybe a book about "real" coincidences and at some point it stated the frequency with which they occur. I've googled and googled to no avail. Anyone remember this? One of them had to do with 9/11, I think, and one of them had to do with a guy in a motel room getting a phone call on misdial but it was actually intended for him or something and maybe saved someone's life?
strange relationship between posts and the posters' usernames
We know that nofundy usually posts about "Fundies", hama7 has posted Hama-Net, and Vidiot's first post was about TV newscasts, but hasn't the relationship between posts and the posters' usernames gotten a little strange lately?
First, I saw Keyser Soze's AskMe about "my friend getting busted by the cops" and its MetaTalk follow-up. But then I noticed posts from PenDevil about rewriting the Chinese Constitution, Dome-O-Rama about an Act of Congress, psychotic venom about these depressing times, loquacious about Rumsfeld's words, ferociouskitty about howwasshe.com, and four panels about China's Building Blitz.
And AskMe has a problem with the French from staggernation and a mouse in a messy room from Slimemonster.
Am I just going overboard when I see the connections between a car insurance site and mr crash davis, Jay-Z and soundofsuburbia, or Sudden Oak Death and barkle (oops, that should be bargle) ? If so, just say "adjust your meds, Wendell", and we'll leave it at that. If not, I'll be back tonight with a post about Wendell Willkie.

The Scooby Doo gang rides again
The Scooby Doo gang rides again: David Cassel mentions MetaFilter's crack investigative skills (and quotes headspace) in a piece about Coincidence Design.
