Well, a quick glance around showed me that most other "mefites-in-the-news" and "congratulations mefite!" posts are tagged as MetaFilter related, so it seems like that is the standard.

YoungAmerican - Congrats! Beautiful picture!

when you are back from your honeymoon YA can you tell me how the NYT gets these nuptials stories. Because they should cover more low key ceremonies at the registrars office then off to the pub, like my wedding.

Metafilter had like 8 zillion new york times stories yesterday and I am concerned it's getting a bit elitist..

This has NOTHING to do with your lovely wedding for which I wish you sincere congratulations.

Thanks everybody.

w/r/t how they found out... Francesca (the reporter) is a freelancer. She emailed everyone she knew with a "anybody hear about any great weddings coming up," and a listener, who's Francesca's sister-in-law's sister, told her about me. Which is awesome, because I really thought it would be awesome/hilarious if I was in that section of the Times. It's a great honor and absolutely ridiculous at the same time.

And yes, my eternal thanks goes to Matt and MeFi, which is indeed a major underwriter of TSOYA.

A senior citizen said to his eighty-year old buddy :
'So I hear you are getting married?'

'Yep!'

'Do I know her?'

'Nope!'

'This woman, is she good looking?'

'Not really.'

'Is she a good cook?'

'Naw, she can't cook too well.'

'Does she have lots of money?'

'Nope! Poor as a church mouse.'

'Well, then, is she good in bed?'

'I don't know.'

'Why in the world do you want to marry her then?'

'Because she can still drive!'

Donks or Shetland Ponies would have been cool! Every time I ride the Redwood Valley Railroad in Berkeley, I think that the addition of a gang of train robbing midgets on miniature horses would add so much absurdity to the experience.

Also, as a former cynical fan of veiled conceit, I can honestly say that yours is the first NYT wedding announcement that I've seen that deserves no hint of mockery. Congratulations!

Is it impolite to suggest that someone married WAY out of their league, beauty-wise?

Although generally impolite, an exception is made for those who themselves married WAY out of their league, beauty-wise. Having seen pictures of your better half, ColdChef, I can vouch that you are eligible for the exception.

Great story. I loved sitting at the breakfast table, opening the NYT, and saying "hey, I know that guy!"

tell me how the NYT gets these nuptials stories. Because they should cover more low key ceremonies at the registrars office then off to the pub, like my wedding.

As a lifelong Times reader, I can only say that these columns are the lowkey stories. They depict the quirkier and more creative weddings out there and do choose subjects from outside the financial elite. Before this column was introduced, the only weddings covered in the Times were those of children of CEOs and the financial elite. The Vows column covers a pretty good variety of high-end to low-end weddings - I can remember some about immigrants getting married at City Hall, etc - but all have an interesting story attached. It's certainly not exactly a populist section of the newspaper, but they make an effort to highlight a diversity of weddings in the feature.

To celebrate their 730th day as a couple, Mr. Thorn, then a resident adviser at the University of California, Santa Cruz, cut out and mailed 730 paper hearts to Ms. Hossfeld’s Sarah Lawrence dorm room.

This is absurdly sweet. Shame on you for making the rest of us look bad by comparison.

And congratulations!
