Ottawa meetup, anybody? October 18, 2008 10:56 AM Subscribe
Autumn has come; the leaves in the Gatineau Hills are changing, and now that the election campaign has come and gone, the scrutineers are growing their glossy winter pelts. Maybe time for an Ottawa meetup?
Yon search function tells me it has been a year since any such notion was pitched, and I think it's high time we of the turgidly named National Capital Region met up and made merry sport.
As a reference point, how does some Friday evening in November sound? What is people's pleasure? Somewhere in The Glebe? Byward Market, perhaps? Further afield?

I might be able to make it...

As for the Market: who would be offended by Oh So Good's high prices for sweet delicious cake?

Oh MAN. I might actually be in town that weekend :D
*watches avidly*
And yes, my favourite hang out in the Market is definitely The Pour House and Zac's, so I'm putting those two out there. Also seconding flibbertigibbet's suggestion for Oh So Good.

Many a good time has started at the historic old Laff. Not if you are shopping for an "appletini", or anything like that... but they do sell big-ass bottles of beer.
Saturday afternoons feature the old school stylin' of Lucky Ron.
And - if I failed to mention it - large beers.

*totally offended by outrageous prices at Oh So Good*
They were awesome when they had the single location where Sweetgrass is now.
Since they realised how awesome they were and moved out of the sketchier area of the market, their prices are truly through the roof. Then again, I guess I was a little poorer last time I went...
Hmm.

Any more news about weekend of the 14th? I'm almost definitely in town.

It looks like the 14th, a date I chose by throwing a dart at a calendar, seems fairly good. I detect no consensus on a venue yet -- a few names are out there, but I hear no glad shouts of acclamation for anything so far. So: I suggest Patty Boland's (101 Clarence between Dalhousie and William). Good selection on tap, decent grub, fireplace. And pretty central to almost everything listed above, if we should need to relocate.
What say? Paddy Boland's at 8 pm on the 14th?

It's a date. I'll leap the fence into Phire's yard (possible!) and we'll bus together.
Well, no, I won't, but if we could bus together so as to limit the effect of me forgetting things, i.e. every previous meetup, that'd be nice.

I'm wondering if it might be possible to make this event the 15th, actually... because it looks like I may not be in town until about 9:30, at which point I'll probably head home to crash.

Actually, I am going to be out of town altogether that weekend, I just discovered: possibly a week earlier or later? If this is do-able, I will have a mod adjust the date in the sidebar.

I would be available.... Sunday the 8th? But I'm not sure Sunday is the best idea for a meet up.

Ugh. I just learned on Friday that I won't be allowed to chew food, or drink alcohol, until the 18th of November at the earliest. Can we maybe go to a place that has milkshakes, then, so I can eat?
If not, it's fine.

Well, I cannot make it the 14th. It looks like Phire is out either of the two weekend flanking it, and the seventh is nae sae guid for MsM and the milkshake-ridden flibbertigibbet.
So, Friday the 21st at 8:00 pm it is!
